Ex-Ex-Gays Apologizes For Harm

Former leaders of ex-gay ministry in U.S. apologize for "bringing harm"

LOS ANGELES: Three former leaders of an international ministry that counsels gays to change their sexual orientation apologized for their efforts, saying that though they acted sincerely, their message had caused
isolation, shame and fear.

****

"Some who heard our message were compelled to try to change an integral part of themselves, bringing harm to themselves and their families," the three, including former Exodus co-founder Michael Bussee, said in a joint written statement presented at a news conference in Hollywood. "Although we acted in good faith, we have since witnessed the isolation, shame, fear and loss of faith that this message creates."

****

Bussee left Exodus in 1979 after he fell in love with a man who was a fellow ex-gay counselor with the group. He speaks out frequently against ex-gay therapies.

The others speaking at the news conference included Jeremy Marks, former president of Exodus International Europe, and Darlene Bogle, the founder and former director of Paraklete Ministries, an Exodus referral agency based in Hayward, California.

2. I don't have it in me to resent them much - they were screwed up. Had there not been a lot
of money and interest on the part of those who EXPLOITED them, far less damage would have been done.

4. I'll agree with Mondo Joe
These are people who have been screwed with to a remarkable, almost unfathomable degree. Their body and inmost being is telling them one thing, their society is telling them something else, their faith community is telling them yet another thing, and the level of self-loathing ramps up and up. Mel White's book "Stranger at the Gate" tells one man's story about grappling with these conflicting messages and the pain, shame and humiliation that attends a person's every waking moment, and the desperate measures any of us would employ to make it stop.

5. Also, there were "ex-gays" with integrity who got out of the scam early when they
saw what was going on -- the absolute unarguable lies about data, the taking advantage of people.

I saw some of them on a documentary a few years ago. I think they were just people on their own fucked up journey who were latched on to by some EVIL MOTHERFUCKERS with a lot of money to spend and earn.

3. I;m sorry but I think their queer cards should be permanently destroyed.
How many lives did they destroy while making 1000's of $$$ before they had their "awakening"?

7. "ex-ex-gay"? What ... did he have a relapse of the gay? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(k&#5r)
This is a person who has forfeited any authority to comment in a meaningful way on gender politics.
