We all happy now?

A generation or two of hard right Supremes saw its first year of existence. When Roberts and Alito turn out to be moderating the assholery of Scalia and his Puppy, Justice Slappy, you KNOW we're in deep shit.

The simple, plain, irrefutable fact is that had we had a President Gore, this would NOT have happened.

45. No they couldn't
they Republicans would've eliminated the filibuster.

Alito and Roberts were qualified, and had no obvious problems preventing their appointment, other than they're conservative. but that's no surprise.

As the OP points out, elections have consequences.

10. The reality is that the Dems could have blocked 4 "justices"
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 03:16 PM by depakid
Thomas & Scalia AND Roberts & Alito. They had all of the information that they needed- and they had the power to do so.

But- because substantial elements in the party are little more that far right enablers, they chose to put them onto the court for life.

That's the bottom line... and it's happened again and again in situation after situation.

Ask yourself- "what would the Republicans have done if the shoes were on the other feet?"

The answer will tell you why they controlled all 3 branches of government (and to a considerable degree- still do)- as well as controlling the media.

23. Exactly right, depakid...
...I actually watched the Thomas hearings way back when, and I was appalled when they let him get through the hearings unscathed even though (a) he was clearly unqualified (his answers showed him to be a pedestrian intellect at best); and (b) he lied through his teeth about important things, for example claiming that he had never had any opinions or discussions about Roe v Wade, never ever. By the time they got to the Anita Hill accusations (which yes, I did and do believe) it just looked like a last-ditch attempt to derail his nomination by doing an end-run around the process. And that's how it got treated, and a good woman was dragged through all of that for nothing.

And, again as you say, if the shoe were on the other foot the Republics would have done everything in their power to stop the nomination of progressively minded justices.

No wonder the population at large thinks Democrats are wimps. Mainly because time after time, that's exactly what they are.

that had me shattering my remote control after the 2004 election. These justices embody the hatred, fear, ignorance and bigotry of the far right. I will never let anyone who enabled them forget it. I also hope for anything that will mitigate their awful agenda.
