concerning the British gas story today

Just how big of an explosion would an auto filled with the correct ratio, which is after all necessary, of a combustible gas and oxygen be. When I was but a kid we had a family in our rural neighborhood whose house exploded from butane filling the house as they slept. Of the three inside it only killed the mother because the house fell on her, the father and the son who was going through the door when he switched the porch light on were treated only for minor burns. the house didn't catch on fire either it just scattered personal belongings all over the yard as well as destroying the house. Oh it never done anything to the house next door which was prolly 30 or 40 feet away

1. from my understanding
several different reports from both sides of the political spectrum have been pretty consistent, that as far as car bombs go this one was fairly well made and stronger than most.

2. I just don't see how the confines of an auto could be large enough
it would have to rupture the tank the gas is in and I've seen them intact even after house fires, the safety plug will be gone but it only allows a controlled amount of gas to escape, not like a rupture would do. I'm not arguing with you I just don't from my observasion see how this type bomb works.
in the larger sense I mean

4. The most efficient way would be to aerosolize the gas
the way a paint sprayer aerosolizes paint. The most combustible mixture is a gas spray in air, with the smaller the droplets, the better. That's what your carburetor does in your car, should you be retro enough to have one of the miserable things.

It wouldn't be that difficult to fix up some sort of contraption to work off the cig lighter.

I'm assuming, from you're mentioning of the gas tank, that you're talking about a gasoline car bomb. Otherwise, I just got up and I hate CNN and what the HELL is going on?

(grumpy until the drugs kick in)

10. Ah, found the story on the BBC
and all the driver had to do was crack the cylinder and exit the car. The triggering device was a cell phone. The mixture of combustible gas and air inside the car, triggered by the cell phone, would have provided one hell of a bang.

That was an incredibly brave bobbie who ENTERED THAT CAR and disconnected the cell phone before diving for cover.

3. Doesn't change the fact
that at present there is no evidence whatsoever to attribute this to "international terrorism" Just an excuse to spook the population.
Could just as easily be someone with a grudge against the nearby club and if you're intending to cause real damage you use fertilizer and a van - not a Mercedes car. I say that becasue of comparisons which are being drawn against the recent trial where the that was the intention.
Gas canisters outside one of those old buildings in Picadilly , which are truly solid Portland stone , wouldn't have much of an impact other than on passers by and if they were the target it wouldn't have been at 1.30am when the area is quiet. It's also hardly likely to have been parked for future detonation - you get towed in that area almost as soon as a parked car is spotted.

Whole story just smells.

9. I'd question how 'quiet' it is outside a nightclub at 1:30 am
It could be a fairly busy time.
