Why Has "Red Dawn" Been On AMC Like A Gazillion Times In The Last Month Or So?
I see it will be on twice today & once tomorrow. I wonder, how long will this go on?

2. Nothing special about that movie.
They will show the same movie a gazillion times over the course of a month, and then it's on to some other movie.

10. Well, William Smith was my favorite actor...
when I was a teenager. What a hunk! He actually speaks Russian; perhaps he helped write the dialogue (he's smart, too).

3. I agree its
being overplayed a lot in the last couple years. It has also made runs on subscription channels. I like the movie a little as an action flick. But its not THAT good.

6. AMC does suck. They air a lot of crap that are non-classics.
Years back, they showed tons of classics and there were no commercials.

They haven't shown an Audrey Hepburn movie in years.

Whoever is in charge of programming should be canned.

11. Red Dawn made it easy for slow people to follow.
One of the enemy commanders states he usually sides with insurgents and refers to the Wolverines as such.

15. Someone should remind all the Republican retards who love this movie so much...
That it's grossly anti-American!

After all, a superpower invades an innocent country for no reason. They occupy it. They arrest anyone who opposes them. They suspend habeas corpus. Torture innocent people. Then a small rag tag group of "freedom fighters" (aka terrorists) - no match militarily - carry out small raids and attacks and scatter into the wind.

Sound familiar?

But...but...but...Ronald Reagan loved this movie!

The irony. The irony.

18. I know
was our much vaunted military run into the ground by Reagan & Bush? Is that how they were able to invade so easily?

(qualified by saying I don't remember the premise of how Russia was actually able to invade & occupy our counry...)

36. It was so ridiculous and inplausible that it's embarrassing to say
But apparently the Contras of Nicaragua and the Communists in Cuba manage to take over Mexico. After NATO is dissolved, Russia attacks Europe. Then supported by some phantom 100 divisions (or some such) the Cubans and Contras invade America via Mexico, and the Russians invade Alaska and march through Canada into the north.

America, with ITS FAR SUPERIOR MILITARY, apparently just sit back and say, "huh, waaa?" Our Air Force, tracking satelites and radar were apparently on vacation that day.

Just a guess, but they do this all the time. And, never with the person's good movies... always with the lemons.

did the same thing with "Beastmaster".

there was only One HBO channel in those days and it was on at least twice a day for months at a time, several times. Weird.

21. Revival of the Cold War?
I was discussing this movie with a friend of mine the other day. He and I were both Poli Sci majors back in the Reagan years. He was saying that he thinks there is a contingency in this administration trying to revive the Cold War since the neo-con agenda seems to be floundering. He has this theory that Putin and Bush are working together to stir things up - bear in mind this was drunken ramblings of a couple of weeks ago, but there has been quite a bit of these movies showing lately (not just Red Dawn - the SciFi channel keeps showing The Day After), so maybe somebody at AMC is thinking along the same lines.
;)

24. To show why there is a insurgency in Iraq...duh....
If we were invaded and occupied like in the movie Red Dawn...we would become "insurgents" some of us would become resistance fighters.

You see it is a thin line between insurgency and defending ones national sovereignty.

It all depends on which side you are on.

the facts remain. In any occupation there will be people whose homes and lives have been totally destroyed and there will be people who will do ANYTHING to protect their home and nation.

They kept showing that dumb "Dreamscape" movie ad nauseum. I notice in my TV guide they're still showing it.

31. Money
Its cheep for them to buy the rights to broadcast it. It has a slightly topical theme to the current news and thus provides a link the marketers like to see.

As in everything with the media it boils down to cost and marketing.

34. Cable tv owns 12 movies
They just play them over and over again.

The way radio networks only own 12 records, and play the same songs over and over again. You'd think that the Rolling Stones just had one hit song.... I go all Manchurian Candidate when "Bad Company" is played the zillionth time that week. I mean it -- I've been known to throw objects when that stupid song comes on. Again.

(BTW -- I don't listen to this crap voluntarily. But I have had jobs where some idiotic coworker HAS to have the radio on but obviously don't listen to or care about music. I have resorted to earplugs, white noise generators, and at times contemplated stabbing my ear drums with an ice pick to get away from this crappy pablum.)

Back to TV.

It's not just Red Dawn.

Independence Day, Gladiator, The Godfather, Addams Family Values, Dante's Peak. Also O Brother Where Art Thou? and Girl with a Pearl Earring (both of which I love, but COME ON....).

I may be missing one or two on this list, but it's around 12 that are continually recycled. This is the bad kind of recycling, not the nice kind.

And we're not even mentioning how they continually rehash old network series. How many times can you watch Everyone Loves Raymond? Are there still some people out there who have not been introduced to it yet and for whom it is fresh and funny?

I HATE cable. All these channels, and there is jack to watch. Just repeats.

I so want to cancel my middle range service, the repetitive content of which stinks, but keep it because it's the only way I can see The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. I being held hostage for access to Comedy Central.

Come to think of it, I don't watch network either. Haven't for many years. Stupid shows. Not even PBS anymore, which has gotten bizarre in idiotic programming in recent years. Nova, Frontline, American Experience, American Masters, Charlie Rose -- that's all that's left of the good stuff (at least here in Pittsburgh).

Grrrrrrrrrrr
