2. MIKE!!!
Good news, although I wish XM would dump Big Eddie and air Thom when he's supposed to air, from noon to 3 p.m.

3. I'd be ecstatic if they would put Hartmann or Malloy on in place of Lionel...
I listened to him and TRIED to dig where he was coming from, but I just can't stand him. I know he tried to be ironic, but it just doesn't translate well over radio...

22. Lionel's politics irritate me...I've not listened to
him since he had Bill Donahue on and they whined about how persecuted CATHOLICS are in the US. Anytime someone called in disagreeing with them, Bill Donahue would say something homophobic which would not be rebutted by Lionel.

I miss Sam in the mornings!

Now I listen to the many podcasts I subscribe to.

4. Sirius has Malloy on LIVE! 9 - 12 every night.
I get to hear Thom Hartmann's replay in it's entirety then from 12-3am. I drive truck at night so these two shows carry me through most of my working hours. The only thing I wish for from XM would be the MLB package.

7. This is an XM thing, nothing directly to do with Air America, right?
No mention of this on either Air America or NovaM's website - I'm a premium member of both...

8. Mike himself mentioned about XM a couple of times last week
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 11:11 AM by CaseyBuck
Nova M's website hasn't been changed yet; they still list it as "coming soon". And obviously, I don't think Air America's website would mention their XM affiliate carrying a rival network's show; they must be upset that more of their programming is being preempted.

The big loser in all of this is Mark Riley's "The Air Americans" show. It has very few station clearances, and it's not even carried on the NYC flagship station WWRL; it's pretty much an Internet-only show now.

XM has no obligation to play Air America's schedule in its entirety; they merely have the exclusive rights for Air America's programming.

9. OK, so I'll feel free to let my Air America subscription to expire...
Thanks for clearing that up. It almost sounded like some kind of a merger.

I'll keep my NovaM founder's club subscription for my REQUIRED Malloy listening, listen to the free Sam Seder podcasts as I currently do...

24. Sirius play the whole AAR schedule before AAR moved to XM
I think Sirius was just to cheap for AAR

10. Additional note of AAR/NovaM crossover - Sam Seder to sub for Mike Malloy show this Thursday...
It's almost like the Beverly Hillbillies going to stay at the Petticoat Junction...

11. XM would make life so much easier for themselves if they would add another channel.
That way they could run Hartmann, Malloy, the Air Americans, and Fat Eddie ALL in their proper time slots, and not cut anyone's show down to 2 hours.

XM has about 6 or 7 right wing channels, and one alleged "left wing" channel. "Alleged" because there doesn't seem to be a lot of Liberals on AAR anymore.

Looking forward to hearing Sam on Mike's show Thursday. Don't always get to listen to his Sunday show. I suspect he's going to Nova M full time eventually. Probably some contractual red tape keeping him anchored to the sinking ship......

12. I've thought the same thing, but out of curiosity...
Which channels do you consider the right wing ones? There's the obvious one next to "Air America," and I know there's at least two Fox News/Talk channels.

21. Doesn't XM have a Christian talk channel?
Last December during Hanukkah XM had a week of Jewish music. They did repeat a lot of stuff but it sure was nice to tune in and hear Jewish content. I emailed them and said that since they have three Christian oriented channels, why not do ONE Jewish oriented channel? I've never received a response.

So much for Jews controlling the media, huh? :eyes: :sarcasm:

it has been a downward spiral since I bought into it a couple of years ago.

16. Great news. I can only get Air America on XM, and Mike and Thom are
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 12:22 PM by Zorra
my favorites. I used to listen to AAR all the time, but after Mike got canned, then Sam got canned, and then XM put Ed Schultz on instead of Thom, I hardly listen to AAR on XM anymore except for Randi and Rachel.

The Lionel show is awful, his voice and accent are more annoying to my ears than fingernails scraping on a blackboard, and the content of his show bores me to tears. Ed Schultz is OK sometimes, but is not worth going out of my way to listen to.

I'll be listening to Mike and Thom every night now.:-)

Last summer, I had XM 167 on all the time. This summer, I hardly listen to it because they have taken all my favorites off. Now I can listen once again!:headbang:

18. Is Mike Malloy podcast anywhere? Anywhere that I can get his shows as a free MP3?
Air America has mostly jumped the shark now. There's precious little commentary on the hard news. I miss Mike Malloy.

19. Mike is podcasted at novamradio.com
But, it's part of a subscription "Founders Club" for $9.99 a month/$100 a year; it's similar to Air America Radio's Premium service.

However, you also get access to their message board and live chat room in addition to the podcasts, so it's worth the extra money.

20. Will have to send this to work so I can record Mike
Malloy on my Inno. I already record Sam on Sundays. I wish they'd move Ed Schultz to a replay and put Thom Hartmann on in HIS time slot.

Thankful for the changes, though.

Better than nothing.

Who's being kicked off Air America to accommodate these changes?

23. Why can't they just air Thom Hartmann live and create another progressive channel?
I don't think Ed Suchz (sp) and Mike Malloy want to be associated with AAR. This is only slight improvement.

just remember with the merger the program resources for both companies will be available to both.

26. Why do they pre-empt Thom Hartman with Ed Schuz?
yet they run Lionel, why can't they just put Stephanie Miller in that slot if they want to pre-empt something? Why can't they just create another progressive channel?

27. it's called a 'contract'.

There was no clear plan for what was going to happen when Al left AAR. Days of repeats and fill in hosts. XM decided to go with (and it don't matter how much the Es bashers scream about him this is the truth) the top rated Left Talk Host in America to fill the slot. This was before they announced Thom was taking the slot.

There will be a second left channel, but I can't say precisely when. The merger mess has complicated things, but when it's approved, you can expect that Stephanie, Bill Press, Malloy and a few others will move there and AAR will be all AAR at it's right time.

And bitch about Lionel all you want, but he's been in the business for 19 years, so AAR got an experienced broadcaster that had a big affiliate network and good ratings, exactly what people had bitched at AAR to do, so they do it and people still bitch.
