Well, I got some good news today!

A good friend of mine is home safe and sound, back from his Iraq tour that lasted 23 months, the longest tour of any unit to date, I'm told. This is an individual who, in the middle of his deployment, takes time to ask how my mother is doing. It irks me that an individual of that caliber and integrity is forced into putting his life on the line for such a criminal misadmisistration. At any rate, he emails me telling me he's back with his wife and kids, sipping a cold beer. Well deserved.

My sigh of releif was deafening.

6. I can't imagine how much skill and effort it takes to stay safe that long
I hope that beer and being back home satisfies the soul. That person deserves a lifetime supply of their favorite beverage for as long as they want it. I would be glad to contribute.

11. Well, hopefully for good...
considering he did a 10 month deployment in Kosovo prior to Iraq, and served in a unit that was in Iraq longer than any other unit. I'd say he's paid his dues...

14. Jesus, 23 months?
The guys who are going over now are told to expect 18 months in country per deployment, but a month shy of two YEARS?

Fuck, just when I think that I can't get any more pissed off...
