Senator Reid: "Some Republicans WOULD RATHER PROTECT THE PRESIDENT Than SUPPORT THE TROOPS"
Harry Reid, in his response to the filibuster, said this:

"If the Republicans oppose troop readiness, they're entitled to vote against it," he said. "But to block this amendment, to not even give it an up or down vote, shows that some of my Republican colleagues would rather protect the president than protect the troops."

3. That was the whole purpose of this exercise in legislative inaction...
This made it possible to have it on record that certain Senators would rather not give relief to the troops...

This is exactly the kind of tactics that the people who control the debate can and should use...

8. What's nice about that language...
... is that it mirrors the sorts of things the Republicans were saying about the Dem minority a year ago. "This deserves a straight up-or-down vote", "Your obstruction hurts our troops", etc. It probably won't work as well for our side as it did for theirs, though.

7. This is an excellent meme
and it should be used for everything the GOPers do.

GOPers would rather support Bush than __________ (fill in the blank i.e. do something good for the country).
