China executes the former head of its food and drug agency
By Joseph Kahn
Published: July 10, 2007

BEIJING: China executed its former top food and drug regulator on Tuesday for taking bribes to approve untested medicine, as the Beijing leadership scrambled to show that it was serious about improving the safety of Chinese products.

The Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court carried out the death sentence against Zheng Xiaoyu, 62, the former head of the State Food and Drug Administration, shortly after the country's Supreme Court rejected his final appeal.

Zheng, who had appealed his May 29 sentence on the grounds that it was "too severe" and that he had confessed to the bribery charges against him, became the first ministerial-level official put to death since 2000 and only the fourth since China opened it doors to the outside world nearly 30 years ago.

The official Xinhua press agency announced the execution but did not say how Zheng was killed. In most cases, the court police execute prisoners by shooting them in the back of the head, though recently the police have also used lethal injections.

Now that's what I call government accountability...

1. If the same measure was applied to the Bush Adminstration...
the third assistant janitor would now be the head of the government.

6. And doing a much better job.
The cool thing about executing them, is they don't show up in another administration 20-30 years later. I used to think it was harsh, when dead kings were buried with their entire retinue. Now, I see much wisdom in it.

8. If Brownie had been in China
The executioner would have been waiting with a large axe
outside the courtroom. Bush would have been there to console
him briefly before telling him, "Brownie, you're getting
a heck of a chop........."

15. I'm closer to the center of town
To the extent that Dallas can be said to have one.
Not far from the corner of Preston and Mockingbird.
One of the few places in town where you can actually
walk to the grocery store, great restaurants, and the
movies.

Unfortunately, due to my job, I'm rarely there. I haven't
even been in TX since January. Yesterday, for example, I had
breakfast in Germany, a midmorning coffee in Belgium, lunch
on the train down to France, and dinner back in Belgium.

Like a guy in Washington once called it, "one of THOSE jobs."

16. By the way, about Texans and Bush:
A lot of people in DALLAS hate him (Austin, too), but out in the
hinterlands, it's a different story. I lost my Rep. in Congress,
Martin Frost, when DeLay's Gerrymandering took out some of the
educated areas of the district and added on a bunch of bible-thumpers
out in the boonies to the district. Bye-bye Martin (after 26 years
in the House!) and hello Pete Sessions, a RW nut case. I know two
wonderful women in the Texas Young Democrats (Jennifer Roberts and
Aimee Boone) who represent the best of Texas. Sadly enough, you don't
have to look very far to find the worst!

I have been known to write a lyric or two for The Freedom Toast.
Things get so bad, sometimes you gotta find an outlet where you
can have a laugh or two!

17. Maybe I need to find a dem group here in Texas..
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 02:20 PM by Blaze Diem
Know there are Dallas DU Groups somewhere, and it would be great to surround myself with my "own kind"
I also enjoy the verbal sparring that takes place (on paper, that is), and have shopped in the Preston/Mockingbird area you speak of.
Worked at a shop on Lemmon & Oak Lawn, & moved here in January. Kind of miss that area.

A guy I dated last year has a job similar to yours..one of 'those jobs'. in sales & travels the world. But he believes GBush is the greatest thing since grits, ahhh well.

Nice talking..and I'll be searching for an active Dem Group in my area.

They're still out there making the same shit.
