Audit will look into disappearance of $22 million worth of equipment
and computers from the CDC!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19763414/

ATLANTA - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will investigate the disappearance of $22 million worth of equipment, computers and other items from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last month, a congressional oversight committee requested an audit of the CDC's property management procedures and an investigation into allegations of theft at the center.

CDC officials said they have accounted for about $9 million in missing goods in recent weeks.

Farther down in that article it did say their last audit was in 1995, but DAMN, that's still amost $2 million per year!

2. Here's a clip from Wiki.
CDC’s budget for 2006 is $8.5 billion. Today the staff numbers nearly 15,000 (including 6,000 contractors and 840 Commissioned Corps officers) in 170 occupations. Engineers, entomologists, epidemiologists, biologists, physicians, veterinarians, behaviorial scientists, nurses, laboratorians, economists, health communicators, toxicologists, chemists, computer scientists, and statisticians—to name only a few—each are dedicated to the pursuit of public health.

I recognize 15,000 is a lot of employees, and I have no idea what impact the 6,000 contractors have on tha $22 million, but that's still a LOT of computers and equipment to LOSE TRACK OF!

3. I do not know why this makes me laugh
Fed. govt. is getting just to big or we need over sight into every thing, then when wrong is found some one should have to pay. How come the kid that steal out of the pick up store ends up in jail and the guy that steal big ends us with a home in West Palm Springs?
