Loophole lets group ask drivers for money
Sunday, July 15, 2007 5:42 AM
By Tracy Townsend
WBNS-10TV

You see them on street corners throughout Columbus -- men and women approaching cars stopped at red lights, asking anyone who'll roll down the window to drop a donation into their white plastic buckets.

<snip>

But city regulations give a pass to any "publicly recognized evangelical, missionary or religious organization" or a charity or agency associated with one.

Groups that fall into this category don't have to verify their tax-exempt status, prove they have adequate liability insurance, identify their solicitors or specify when and where they'll be collecting. They're not limited to approaching motorists just one day a year, either.

WBNS-TV (Channel 10) recently tracked several groups for two weeks.

The solicitors said they were from various parts of the country, including Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana. All of them said they were part of New Life Christian Church.

7. Shouldn't allow any religious organization to solicit by this means
Or any charity IMO.

There should be a federal law that allows citizens to shoot anyone that solicits them while they are in the car. :evilgrin: :sarcasm:
