Dick Watch: Saxby Chambliss set to gather Dick Dollars
Cheney heads to Georgia to raise money for Chambliss

link: http://www.macon.com/220/story/89721.html

<snip>

ATLANTA --
Vice President Dick Cheney will swing through Georgia on Monday to help fill U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss' campaign warchest.

Cheney will speak at a private fundraiser at noon for Chambliss at a home in Atlanta.

Chambliss already has a commanding head-start in fundraising for next year's race. The Republican from Moultrie has $3.4 million in the bank of the $6.3 million he has raised, according to his most recent report to the Federal Election Commission.

Dale Cardwell, the only Democrat who has formally entered the race to unseat Chambliss, has raised $50,165, according to his report. The former television reporter announced his candidacy just last month.

A Cardwell spokesman said the appearance with Cheney shows that Chambliss "is part of the problem in Washington."

----

Without meaningful campaign finance reform, we are screwn.

Let me get this right: Dick Cheney, a guy whose approval ratings are probably in single digits, goes to Georgia and raises in a single visit more money than I will EVER make in my ENTIRE LIFE.

Meanwhile, Dale Cardwell raises a whopping $50 grr?

Can't someone, ANYONE in Georgia mount a credible campaign against Saxby Fucking Chambliss, who never saw a tax cut or war profiteer he didn't like?

Jesus Christ, if there ever was a year in which a Republican Bush-Ass-Licking Senator should be challenged with more than a dentist's salary, should it not be NOW?

Doesn't the DNC give a fat turd about Chambliss?

2. You have to realize NO local campaigning has even begun
here in GA! The only 08 campaigns anyone around here has heard about are Prez. and most people aren't paying any attention to THAT either!

I spend WAY too much time on DU than anyone should, and I read the local papers every day and even I didn't know someone had declared to run against the AH Saxby!

I will contact our Dem Party leader here in North Ga. and ask about Cardwell.

BTW, I don't really think Unka Dick is going to be much help to ANYONE! Saxby's probaby one of the FEW Pubs who even let him campaign for them!

I just checked Dale's campaign page. He seems to have done a lot of good things via his investigative journalism here in Ga. and quite a few are now serving time because of his reporting help.

http://www.dale08.com/biography.htm

My only fear is that he's fairly young, and winning against a seasoned crooked trickster like Chambliss isn't going to be easy!

3. See, that's exactly the thing that bugs me
No one except for a guy you didn't even know about is running against Chambliss, who should be ripe for defeat, and you're a DUer from Georgia!

I'm from Oregon, and we have the same problem with Sen. Gordon Smith.

He should be getting his ASS kicked right now, but no prominent Democrat will come out against him. He's raising shitloads of corporate cash for his 'war chest' (boy, ain't that a true term) and we are a BLUE STATE.

Okay, napi21, I'm all the way across the country and I'm not very familiar with Georgia politics. Isn't there someone with the guts to challenge Chambliss at a time when Republicans are ripe for the picking?

I'm not knocking on Georgians in particular because for sure we have the same problem in Oregon; all our prominent Democrats have turned down a race with Gordon Smith, and he's EASILY DEFEATIBLE here.

Money in politics really stinks.

A former boss of mine put it best: Money is like manure. If you let it pile up in one place, it smells bad. If you spread it around, good things begin to grow.

Old Swedish proverb. And true.

4. The problem I see with Ga. is that the entire State is RED except
for Atlanta & Athens. I joined a North Ga. Dem Group when Howard Dean was running back in 2000. We DID manage to get groups of about 100 people to come to the meetings, but that's because some of them drove 60+ miles ONE WAY to attend because we were the ONLY Dem supporters around!

I've lived in Ga. for 7 years, but I sure don't know who we could get to run against Sax! I do my best, but I can't drive anymore, and it's difficult to get involved in very much. I sure can't depend on my neighbors! They're ALL PUBS!

5. Ouch.
Money seems to trump everything in American politics.

You guys had a certain peanut farmer who made it all the way to the White House back in the day.

Funny, back then we (Oregon) had a progressive Republican (Tom McCall) who I supported.

Things are weird now.

7. Carter got elected because EVERYBODY was pi**ed off at
the criminality of the Nixon Admin! Georgia voted FOR him because he was a former Ga. Governor! Everyone SAID they wanted an honest man as President, but when they got one (You have to admit Carter WAS HONEST!) they decided that's really NOT what they wanted!

8. Yeah, I conflated the DNC with the DSCC
I know better, but hey.

They still shouldn't concede; Howard Dean proved in 2006 that if you at least show up, you'll be competitive.
