Take Iraq. We marched in, blew the shit out of the place, chased Saddam Hussein out of his palace, killed his sons, and let the people run wild for a little while. They've made it very clear that they don't want us there (what can be any more clear than blowing us up at every opportunity?) but we're determined to "stay the course." Whatever the hell THAT is.
The "conservatives" gripe that the (mythical) "liberal media" just isn't showing the positive side of the occupation (am I allowed to call it that? I can't keep track).
To me it's a bit like a guy (let's call him Sam) deciding his neighbor's a menace. Maybe he beats his wife. Or slaps his kids around. He's a bad dude, it's true. So Sam just loses it one day. He grabs his trusty rifle, marches across the street, and kicks in the door. He proceeds to blow the neighbor to Kingdom Come, spends a little time raping his wife and daughter, beats the living shit out of his son, then sticks around to paint the bathroom and fix up the plumbing.
When the cops come, he yells out the window "the motherfucker had it coming! This is MY house now. I painted the bathroom and fixed a leaky faucet! I don't care WHAT anyone says! They should THANK me!"
And this guy is standing there wondering why HIS family thinks he's gone completely off his nut.
Gee. Can't imagine.
