Basra - Iraq: 300 oil workers gathered to protest against draft of oil law

<snip>

In the southern oil city of Basra, around 300 oil workers gathered to protest against a draft law they said would allow foreigners to pillage the country's wealth.

"If this is endorsed by the parliament it would abolish sovereignty and hand over the wealth of this generation and the generations to come as a gift to the occupier," protest organisers said in a statement.

US officials see the legislation -- aimed at equitably distributing Iraq's oil proceeds -- as a crucial benchmark of the country's political process and a key component of national reconciliation.

2. I can't get past that headline, Scores Die in Oil City...
from Kirkuk, thru Jurf al-Sakhr, to Basra, what are our legitimate forces (and "special" ones) doing, exactly, to make sure that their damn "benchmark" becomes law? If I were one of those 300 oil workers, I would be very wary of "legislators" in "Al-Qaeda" clothing (or truck bombs, whichever is the tactic of the day, to see that "crucial" USA component "reconcile" government in Iraq).

END THE OCCUPATION

OUT OF IRAQ, NOW!
