Poll question: Why didn't McCain's embrace of Bush get him more mojo?
I got the impression in exchange for humiliating himself by embracing Bush in the 2004 election, he was going to get the whole machine behind him, Rove, Fox, talk radio and all.

Did the Bushies break their promise, not have any mojo to give him, or did the GOP base go so far off the crazy end that he was unpalatable to them?

1. That photo alone killed McCain's chances. Before hiring the $20 bj guy to
run his campaign.

He looked soooooo pathetic clinging to the chimperor in that 'love me, daddy' desperation.

2. Other: it did.
Only, the Bush mojo is negative mojo, which is why he's going down in flames, so to speak.

Also why other GOPers are running away from Bush - they don't want to be infected by his negative mojo as well.

3. The machine for the most part got behind Romney
So if he did have a deal, they broke it.

More than that though, he's pissed off the Republican base repeatedly, and they were never excited about him.

5. He got the Bush mojo -
unfortunately for McCain, that mojo has turned to poison the past three years...

I mean, the guy is a big enough flip-flopper that a clean break from Bush would probably be his best idea to turn his campaign around at this time, and it would not be totally out of character for him.

6. even though a nut would be easier to beat (if Dems tried) I would prefer someone like McCain as GOP
nominee just in case Dems screw the pooch again.

Then at least we won't have women wearing burkhas and everybody required to put a monument to the Ten Commandments in their front yard.

9. there's probably something to that. I think his maverick wasn't insincere, he just wasn't as
disciplined at lying as the rest of them.

His crack about evangelicals in 2000 was almost intentional self-saboutage too.

13. I think the "Katherine Harris Rule" is in play here
You can have the keys to the kingdom as long as you look sane and electable.

John "Crazy Grampa" McCain made one too many stupid mistakes.

Oh, and he sponsored the now-toothless anti-torture bill. You don't stop "the boys" from having their fun.

16. McCain gambled on the surge and lost his shirt.
Thousands and thousands are dead since we first struck Baghdad. McCain seemed to make a Faustian deal with the Bush administration. Perhaps they lied to him just as they lied to everyone else. It could be that McCain actually felt we were winning. Hard to imagine, but odd things get into people's heads sometimes, and it's harder to navigate toward the light when your own massive ego is blocking that light.

In any case, McCain's cooked.

17. Bush sucks
Pretty much everyone knows it except for McCrap. He hooked his wagon to a losing train. No one wants this goddamn war, Senator McNutcase and no matter how you spin it, that will not change.

I suppose another reason is that McNothing is just coming across as too old and too desperate to warrant any serious consideration.
