NBC will pull reruns of" Law and Order" if Thompson makes it offical

LOS ANGELES - If Fred Thompson makes it official and throws his hat in the ring for President, NBC will pull future reruns of "Law & Order" featuring the actor after Sept. 1, executive producer Dick Wolf said yesterday.
The former two-term Republican senator from Tennessee recently asked to be cut from the show, leading to speculation he'd run for the White House.

5. The Pseudo Ann Coulter episode would be a comedy classic

Especially when Fred was drooling over her.

And he would have to be sitting in Chairy half of the time.

Wonder if they'll have to pull them, too.

he felt that the cable reruns will not be effected.

6. That's a lot of freaking episodes.
Wonder if those episodes will ever be shown again, or if they'll even be available on DVD anymore.

Not that I dig Thompson, but I know there are some really decent episodes that he's been in. It'll piss me off if I can't see them again.

7. It's going to cost every actor and writer who worked on those episodes.
They will all be screwed out of residuals now. That really sucks.

14. No, that's probably a lawsuit waiting to happen
Contracts are contracts, and depriving people of income simply because an actor gets into politics could very well be a breech of that contract.

15. I bet you a star for a DUer that there's no lawsuit that isn't summarily dismissed or withdrawn.

EDIT: Claiming breach of contract, that is.

17. Can't make that bet
I do know that at least the main actors in most TV shows have the residuals from X number of reruns built into their contract. Who knows, perhaps NBC will simply settle with the other actors, perhaps not:shrug:

23. Elizabeth Rohm and that last ADA person
will be most effected, as ER was only on one season without FDT. The other ADA that replaced her only lasted a year or so--so if she was to get residuals, it would be a big blow to her. Also to Dennis Farina, who also was on only during the FDT years.

16. As well as they should.
If I recall, when Ronald Reagan was the nominee in 1980, stations wouldn't air any of his old movies. Which was a good thing in so many ways.

TV was swamped, absolutely swamped with his films.

But the rule has been applied to television and movie stars in the past.

During the 2003 gubernatorial race in California, television stations dropped all Arnold Schwarzenegger movies out of fear that showing them would require them to give countless hours of free airtime to all 134 other candidates for governor.

Stations also dropped "Bedtime for Bonzo" and other Ronald Reagan movies during his campaigns for governor of California and president.

Also when Jesse Ventura ran for Mn gov he had to give up his radio talk show.

28. Which is why he's being so coy.
He's wandering around collecting money and getting residuals for the multiple showings..

Oddly, I never really even paid much attention to him on the shows. He's not even in the episodes all that much..

I wonder if the cable channels that run the show are afilliated with the networks and will have to abide by the ban as well..

30. My aunt thinks he's a real D.A. and is tough on crime
My deliciously white trash aunt (who I have never liked) told my dad a few weeks ago that she supports Fred Thompson because he's tough on crime and is an excellent district attorney. After my dad started breathing again, he told her that she was wrong, and that he was a lobbyist turned redneck senator who didn't do a damn thing in office. She kept defending him, saying she has seen courtroom footage of him on TV.

I wish I was making this shit up. But so many people see him that way.

31. Good thing he didn't run in 2004, that would have wiped 1/4 of NBC's programming.

BTW- it's completely disingenuous to do this and act like the last fives years of him on the show hasn't been one big commercial.

The fact is NBC isn't willing to give equal time.

33. I don't see how there would be many episodes to pull.
The new season starts sometime in September anyway, doesn't it? NBC doesn't usually show reruns from previous seasons. The cable channels do but the article says those reruns won't be pulled. Maybe I'm missing something.
