Have to wait till November to see how Iraq is going
Faux has reported that a top general has told the Senate that solid judgement on the impact of the U.S. troop buildup in Iraq may not come until November.

I guess the September report is going to be a bad one.

2. said that yesterday and got poo-pooed

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1369367&mesg_id=1375719

there are 12 days left in July. For the month of august - bush will be on vacation, congress will be in recess, and the Iraqi government will get out the kitchen because they can't take the heat...

we know one of the big problems in Iraq is a failure to reach a political/diplomatic solution which would enable the Iraqis to take control of their own country.

I seriously doubt there will be any breakthroughs in the remaining 12 days of July, and with August down the tubes due to vacations we can expect nothing to be accomplished by September except filling more body bags

so sometime in September a "progress report" is distributed, then it will take a week or so to "read" the report, followed by a week or so of "needing time to study the report", followed by a couple of weeks of spinning, followed by pleas of needing more time because the Iraqi govt. has only been back from vacation for a few weeks

this puts any serious consideration of what action to take into late October/early November

and by the time anything gets close to being debated in the House/Senate it will time for Thanksgiving/Christmas breaks...

4. "Wake me up when September comes". Who sings that song?
It just flashed into my head reading this. I hate it when I can't remember. Damned aging brain, early morning/late night issue.

10. Ahhhh, hard to report
in September when everyone (except the suffering people on both sides) are on vacation all of August.

Who could have anticipated the August vacation?

11. Kicking The Can To The Primaries
I think this should be DU rule #1: Never believe anything a Repugnican says. A textbook example. Anyone who really believed that September was gonna be some turning point for this regime didn't hear his assholiness clearly enough that he intends to have his war for profit still going on 1/20/09. Any talk of withdrawl is bullshit...even if the funding is cut, this slimebag will pull money from other parts of the budget or go out an borrow what he needs. Thus this is all a charade and now put on for the benefit of his corrupt party.

The sad thing is in his coven of 25% dead-enders, a majority still favor this bloodlust and the primaries have turned into a competition as to who has the biggest pair and will not just keep this war going but expand it. For the pResidential candidates, they don't care...only one will be standing (barely) next year and the key to the nomination is to show their "loyalty" to boooosh and his discredited legacy.

This also gives cover to some Repugnican candidates (or so they think), as to win their primaries many will have to run to the right as well...or to cash into the dwindling money coming into their coffers. Their gambit is to run to the right in the primaries and then try to fool people by running as "moderates" during the summer.

I suspect next March we'll still be hearing this same bullshit...Repugnican WINOs hand wringing but unable to break away from the money and greed.

12. And the goal posts will continue to be pushed back and back
Until Bushboy is out of office and doesn't have to deal with the war anymore.

This is why the war needs to be defunded now. Otherwise it will continue to drag on and on, into the next term, and quite possibly beyond.
