Border-war hostility holds potential for disaster (taxation without representation)

Regional history suggests that Missourians should be careful about antagonizing their neighbors to the west.

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt’s signature on a big tax increase for Kansans has sparked an electric response from across the state line.

Some Kansas lawmakers are more than ready to fire back with a tax increase on tens of thousands of Missourians who pay Kansas income taxes.

Blunt and Missouri lawmakers should have anticipated kindling a new version of the Kansas-Missouri border wars.

The governor’s cavalier attitude about it — Who cares if Kansans pay more? — doesn’t help.

The new Missouri law reduced taxes on higher-income Missouri seniors, an unfair idea in itself that Blunt really wanted. In addition, lawmakers decided to raid Kansas to replenish some of the lost revenue.

They eliminated the deductions that people who work in Missouri but live elsewhere can take for property taxes paid in their home states.

More insanity from the lunatic republican governor in MO. Son of Roy Blunt and a bush wannabe. Many of the Kansans he doesn't care about are taxpayers in MO. He also needs to read a history book and find out who won the last MO-KS border war.:eyes:
