Would impeachment be more palatable if Pelosi & Byrd recused themselves from
ascending to the presidency upon removal of Bush and Cheney? I'm wondering if member of Congress might be more willing to jump on the bandwagon if it didn't look like the Democrats were just in for a power grab.

The next person in line, BTW, is the Secretary of State, Condi Rice.

1. Can they actually do that?
Not sure if they're empowered to tinker with the order of succession.

2. I think that at this late stage in the administration, Bush and his
pack of wolves (lawyers) would be able to run the clock out. If impeachment ever came to pass, it would be after he left office.

5. There's zero chance
of both Bush and Cheney being impeached and removed simultaneously, so their ascending to the Presidency is not an issue.

6. True, the House could do it, but the Senate would never follow through. (nt)

7. I think you missed the point.
Nancy will not become President if those two are impeached.
