Condoleeza Rice - Concert Pianist?. Like Hell. (Because she is a sociopath, that's why)
Here is a paragraph from Judith Warner's piece in Saturday's (July 21, 2007) NYT.

'Rice, I read in the recent biography, "Twice as Good", is so incapable of empathy that, in her late teens, and after years of assiduous and ambitious practice, she was forced to give up her dreams of becoming a concert pianist because her teacher felt she didn't have the "interest or inclination" to "make someone else's thoughts and emotions (her) own."'

Mods, I hope that you can let this stick w/o link. I typed it directly out of the column and gave credit.

I believe this details that awful person in a thumbnail, in a nutshell.

1. Bingo. Art is impossible without empathy.
So is public service.

"Who could have ever imagined . . . "

12. So very well put, B....
And you may have one too many degrees of separation (sp? I never effing know).

"public service" is the essence of Art in motion.

Are you coming to the Tiburon Art Festival (Aug 25-26)?

I will volunteer to be be your personal escort (it's my show, you know).

15. This is deadly serious Art.
Our jury consisted of Kenneth Baker (SF Chron art writer - big time) and Dr Lynn Orr (Curator-in-Charge of European paintings at the Museums of Fine Art, San Francisco - DeYoung, etc.). They had never juried together before and neither has ever done an outdoor thing.

The median level of art in our event blows every other outdoor festival away.

Do you still have my number?

We gonna pass a good time, 'cher.

Tom

8. You wouldn't believe.
Or maybe you would.

I was thinking of you just yesterday as my creaky old knees were grinding my way up the hill.

Walking on the edge of the feather, friend.

The flying comes easy...

The hardest part is when you fall.

I will get back to you.

4. I will never forget an interview she did back when she first became SOS
They filled the last quarter of the time with her playing the piano! I was stunned!! Here this lady is the new SOS of the most powerful nation on the planet, that nation is at war and she has so little to say that they have to fill the time slot with her giving a concert!!! Still just blows my mind.

Rice is a rote learning over-achiever. That's why she could never play jazz.

9. I think sfexpat said it quite beautifully -- about art and empathy.
How can Condi play Brahms -- reported to be her strong suit at the keyboard -- without inhabiting the emotional landscape?

Evidently the same way she presides over the State Department without giving a hoot in hell about lost lives in Iraq -- theirs and ours both.

A spectacular failure on all counts is Condoleezza Rice.

She coulda been a condentah.

No empathy.

I am sure Brahms would have kicked her off the piano bench.

20. He grew up in a brothel too,
so imagine he would have said some 'interesting things' to her as well. :D

Condi should stick to playing music by Schoenberg, Webern and Berg. It suits her personality better. :)

Catching baseballs off the roof in the dark.

Life has been throwing me some curves that I just cannot hit (but neither could Michael Jordan).

But I will be fine.

Thank you, buddy.

14. Somehow, these individuals lacking empathy seem to find each other
Rice, Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Gonzalez. I recall an article about one of Bush's Harvard professors that stated even as a young man he completely lacked empathy for others in his view of society.

17. That's why they picked 'em.
I have a whole string of stuff about this but I type too slowly.

They have a whole raft of shit on every promising (one way or another) high-school and university student in the country.

I know this for a fact.

And this is not conjecture.

It's a fucking fact.

Duke University has this incredible outreach thing going on (my oldest son was in the program) that you might not believe. Reaches in to kindergarten.

They spot them early on.

And then there's the guy who used to play Wyatt Earp (I am not fucking kidding - google the guy).

They both failed upward. If she resigned next week she would not be missed. She is a waste of Tax Payer's money.
