nuke terror and port security: Chertoff says ports will scan all containers by the end of the year
On the one hand, this is good. It was one of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and those who were interested in actually preventing terrorism rather than showboating.

On the other hand, in light of the terror talk of the right and concern of right wing dissidents like Paul Craig Roberts, this could be covering their ass for a potential nuke event. They can now say, "We were working on it, we just didn't get it done in time."

This nuke angle is another reason the outing of Valerie Plame was damaging--one less person to notice a nuke slipping from Musharraf in Pakistan to some off the books Bush operator.

All container cargo entering US ports will be scanned by radiation detecting equipment by the end of the year, according to Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff.

However, he admitted more advanced equipment is needed to help speed the process and spot a potential nuclear device or dirty bomb.

The agency also expects to scan all containers that enter through border points.

The agency has added radiation portal monitors at major seaports and facilities and now there are more than 1,000 of the devices in use.

1. Let's see, it's been almost 7 years since 9-11 and they're just now securing ports?
:grr:

11. LOL!
Seriously, I am so frustrated that many people, especially the 25% that worship Bush*, don't consider this point. :grr:

18. they don't look at the details, they just listen to what Rush tells them to think. If he told them
to snip off their balls and mail them to Bush, the White House would be buried in Rocky Mountain oysters the next day.

24. LOL! Coldbloods are the large draft horse breeds.
They are descended from the ancient Forest Horse of Europe. They are easy keepers and generally very gentle and easy to handle which is good because they are very large.

Hotblood breeds are as follows: the modern day Arabians (Middle East), Barbs (Spain and North Africa)and Thoroughbreds (all descended from three stallions: two Arabs and a Barb from Arabia).

Warmbloods are crosses between hotblooded horses and coldblooded horses. Many warmblood breeds are quite old, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe. Warmblood breeds include Oldenburgs (my mare is one), Hanoverians, Holsteiners, Irish Sport Horses, Trakahners and Westphalians among many other breeds.

4. So why has this taken so long?
People flying in this country are subject to many searches. Why don't huge cargo containers coming from overseas not all get searched? Wasn't this a part of the 9/11 recommendations? Why so long?

5. By the end of the year?!?
And I remember back in the spring of 2001, Cheney et al, tossing out terror recommendations because they were going to do their own, in the fall.

DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN CARE????

6. maybe they're signalling the terrorists of the timetable change
you know, for all they say we can't have a timetable in Iraq, cause it'll alert the enemy, then what is this?
ITs basically telling terrorists "you have a window of opportunity, you'd better get your asses in gear, we have a busy schedule"

9. That was my first thought as well
This is the first time they've actually admitted that there is no (or very little) scanning actually being done.

7. Except that nukes are not the problem...
Bad food is the problem.

Counterfeit goods, drugs, and other contraband is the problem.

Containers full of Chinese immigrants are the problem,.

Port theft of perfectly good containers is the problem.

If these useless assholes can't catch what they've supposed to have been catching for years already, what the fuck are they doing looking for imaginary nukes?

13. if they at least look for the imaginary ones, it will be harder for Bush or future Bushes to sneak
one in for false flag purposes.

19. My point has always been that if...
the agencies already existing were doing their jobs properly, and were adequately funded and supported, these other problems, including any false flag crap, would be dealt with as a matter of course.
