Today, July 23rd, the fifth anniversary of the meeting that produced the Downing Street Minutes, Cindy Sheehan, Ray McGovern, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Ann Wright, Debra Sweet, Dave Lindorff, David Swanson, Jodie Evans, Medea Benjamin, Kevin Zeese, Tina Richards and Barbara Cummings will lead a march to Chairman Conyers' office and not leave until he agrees to begin impeachment proceedings or they are hauled out (and likely arrested). They'll be leaving Arlington Cemetery at about 10:30 and plan to arrive at the capitol around noon. Barbara reports that there are about 300 peace supporters with them, and about a dozen war supporters harassing them with bullhorns.
We can support these brave patriots ~ and do our part to help change the course of history ~ by flooding Congressman Conyers' office with faxes and calls urging him to take the lead on impeachment - RIGHT NOW! Here's how:
Send a one-click fax to Congressman Conyers' office:
http://www.peaceandjustice.it/impeach Call ~ and get everyone you know to call ~ Conyers' office: phone Chairman Conyers at 202-225-5126.
Email: john.conyers@mail.house.gov
Then... phone your own Congress Member at 202-224-3121 and ask them to immediately call Conyers' office to express their support for impeachment. Your Congress Member might be one of the three (that Conyers says he needs in order to take action), not just to keep impeachment activists out of jail but to keep this nation from devolving into dictatorship.
***You can also call any member of Congress (or the Senate), toll-free, at these numbers (put one into your cell phone, for easy calling whenever the mood strikes you or you're stuck in traffic):
TOLL FREE CALL CONGRESS
1 (800) 828 - 0498
1 (800) 459 - 1887
1 (800) 614 - 2803
1 (866) 340 - 9281
1 (866) 338 - 1015
1 (877) 851 - 6437
For those who have never called: it is not intimidating! The Capitol Operator will connect you to the congressperson/senator of your choice; an aide will then take your message and agree to deliver it to the congressperson/senator. They are cordial and don't quiz you or expect an explanation. Just give them the bottom line: "Please tell Congressman_________to support impeachment!" Often, they do not even ask for your name or even zip code. (Sometimes they want to know if you're a constituent.) They mostly just keep a tally, and that's the reason to call. They pay attention to the numbers because they want to get re-elected.
