Savage Weiner: Imus lynched; just like Nazis did to Jews

From the July 20 broadcast of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:

SAVAGE: It's the same as what the Reverend -- the great Reverend, who nobody knows where he got his divinity degree from -- Al Sharpton, Reverend Sharpton, excuse me -- nobody knows where he's a Reverend or whether he's ever preached, or gotten a degree -- how he lynched the talk show host Imus. Him and the other wonderful, distinguished Reverend, Jesse High Jackson, demanded the hide of Imus. Well, they lynched him. They lynched Imus, as far as I'm concerned.

They didn't do so, so much for racial reasons, they did it for commercial reasons. They did it A, to shake down CBS, and number 2, they did it because Imus was a more successful talk-show host than they were. They have loser shows on the weekend that no one listens to. Now, how do you move up if you're a talentless demagogue? What you do is you attack talented white men, and you say that we need to have fairness in America, in the American media. So put us in their seats.

This is what was done in Nazi Germany to Jews. Distinguished Jewish professors were thrown into concentration camps, and good, upstanding Germans took their jobs very happily, including a very famous psychiatrist who took Sigmund Freud's chair after Freud was driven out of Germany. And his name is none other than Carl Jung. Carl Jung, who is revered by liberals because he was not Freud, and he was an anti-Freud -- he was Jungian, not Freudian -- very happily accepted the spoils of racism in Nazi Germany, the same way that many so-called progressives have benefited through affirmative action in the United States of America. Yes, it's akin. And I'll be back.

nobody outside the beltway ever watched the fuckin thing and in terms of holding your interest it was one (small) step above an infomercial.

The radio audience was pretty small too. In the 90's there was an effort to syndicate the show and at one point it was on a couple of hundred stations. But in NY it was at the bottom of the AM drive time ratings book.

I believe they were looking for a cause celebre that would enable the decision to be made quickly before Imus could marshal any kind of support to keep it on. And that they had decided they'd be money ahead to deal with any breach of contract issues with him rather than to continue to lose money on the show.

Sharpton was a useful tool in getting sponsors to bail thereby making the network's decision easier.

and MSNBC is better off without him. Keith Olbermann said all he and his staff did was harass other people (especially women) and make them miserable.

But I did think that in 2007 to go on TV or radio and say "I hate Jews" (or other racial group) would be seen as unacceptable! You might get away with subtler expressions of racism: the sort that generally begin with "I'm not racist/ anti-semitic, but..." But I don't think that even a Daily Mail writer would get away with writing baldly, "I hate immigrants".

it gives you carte blanche to be an asshole. Coulter gets away with calling for death to liberals, O'Reilly called for terrorists to attack San Francisco, Limbaugh hates everyone on a daily basis. It's par for the course over here. If you want to see his hate filled rhetoric you can look him up at Media Matters, they have a bunch of stuff on him. Funny thing is he used to be a liberal hippie, wrote books on healthy living and stuff. I guess there's lots more money in being an asshole... Cheers! :toast:

All I can say is that 'Savage' is a good name for him.

Imus was the nazi race baiter here, he got put in his place. He thought it was funny. Still laughing Imus? Now you have pals like Savage sticking up for you, for a supposed liberal that must mean a lot to you.

That fact that Weiner is defending him speaks volumes.
