Former deacon makes court appearance

A former deacon with Grace Fellowship Church made his first appearance Monday on suspicion that he stole thousands of dollars from the small church.

Arthur O. “Art” Nelson, 51, was arrested Friday at his Battle Ground home and booked into the Clark County Jail but posted $60,550 bail.
Clark County Superior Court Judge Barbara Johnson told Nelson he will be on supervised release pending trial.

Nelson is a candidate for a position on the Battle Ground City Council.

Last week, Howard Hart, the pastor of Grace Fellowship Church, estimated that between $12,000 and $14,000 was stolen from the church.
