http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=engThe forecast for more rain this week has put authorities in Bern on edge after a state of emergency was declared over the weekend. Following three days of storms, the Aar River has risen to dangerous levels. The current of 374 cubic meters per second exceeds the volume of 365 cubic meters that normally signals an emergency situation. Heavy rains have already flooded basements, knocked down trees and led to landslides cutting roads and rail lines around the national capital. Authorities sent warning messages to residents with mobile phones living close to the Aar River to evacuate threatened locations. The communities of Altenberg and Bremgarten, where the Aar has spilled over its banks, were among the worst hit. The Bern area got a reprieve Sunday when the rain let up but forecasts call for more precipitation today and throughout the week. Other parts of Switzerland have also suffered from the deluge. The countryside around Lucerne received up to 55 liters of rain per cubic meter on a single night over the weekend.
