The M$M and all of its vitriolic right-wing pundits will start painting the occupation of Iraq as the Democrats' fault as soon as Bush is no longer in office. If the occupation in Iraq is still going on in 2009, here's the best thing we can do to not take blame or responsibility for it:
If a Democrat is elected President and both houses of the Legislature remain in our control in November 2008, then the next Congress needs to draft up a bill for withdrawal of troops and have it ready for the President's signature on January 20th. And I mean after taking the oath of office the new President needs to sign that bill in front of all those cameras, take advantage of the fact that the media are already there for his/her inauguration. That way the President can make a very clear and public statement that the war is over, at the inauguration, so the pundits can't spin it that the Democrats let the war continue while having control of the government.
Regarding impeachment, you're absolutely right. Even if we're doomed to failure due to lack of votes in the Senate, we have to at least try. Indict, impeach, imprison...NOW!
