Nike gives Indonesia taste of the other end of offshoring

Indonesia, long a destination for outsourcing U.S. companies, may now be getting a taste of the other end. Indonesians are up in arms as Nike continues with plans to cut orders at two contractors jeopardizing nearly 14,000 jobs. President for the company overseeing the two contractors said they have been working with Nike for 20 years and as a result the wages of some long time workers have outpaced the price being offered by Nike to keep the shoe making with the contractors. More than 5000 workers have been protesting outside of Nike’s Indonesian headquarters forcing a building lock down.
