BREAKING: Multiple Explosions In Downtown Dallas (Acetylene Tank Fire, Not Terrorism)
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 11:04 AM by The Cleaner
Note: This is not in the central business district, it appears to be on the outskirts in an industrial area.

DALLAS — Multiple explosions rocked the downtown Dallas area Wednesday morning at 500 Industrial Boulevard and Interstate 35.

People fled the area and major highways—including I-30 and I-35W—were shut down. Traffic built up along roads leading to the site and was moving very slowly in downtown Dallas.

Parkland Memorial Hospital said it was treating two people injured by the blast.

A tank containing acetylene is thought to have exploded. Acetylene is used for welding due to the high temperature of the flame; combustion of acetylene with oxygen produces a flame of over 6,000 degrees fahrenheit.

The explosions are massive; is a dangerous situation. Fire can be seen shooting into the air and there is billowing black smoke. This has flared up, then calmed down, only to flare up again.

12. same thing happened down at Portland Welding Supply once...
They had just gotten a delivery of acetylene when something touched off one of the tanks. This caused a sort of chain reaction, and within seconds other tanks were popping off their regulators and zooming up and about like flaming rockets. The whole thing lasted for several minutes.

The workers all hit the deck and stayed there til the fire deparment came. No serious injuries, amazingly.
