Water running out in British flood areas
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=268076

Water company’s in Britain are asking for help from the Brown government to supply clean water to flood-hit Gloucester.

Severn Trent Water says it fears water may run out while 350,000 people are still without tap water. They say it could be two weeks before supplies are restored.

Gordon Brown, who had earlier pledged £46m for flood-hit councils, promised that more water supplies were coming

Since water supplies were cut when a treatment plant flooded, residents have had to draw their water from mobile dispensers which have been set up in the streets of Gloucester.

With increasing pressure on supplies, many residents say they have struggled to find any mobile street dispensers with water in them.

1. Revenge of the albatross?
"Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink ;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink."

:shrug:

6. I don't think there's a particular need for anything
apart from possibly spare parts for the water treatment plants - which the government is capable of paying for.

It's not a major life-threatening event (1 person drowned, and twins were born prematurely in a cut-off home, and died before the helicopter could get them to hospital, but that's it for loss of life, I think), and the proportion of homes that are actually unliveable in is fairly small, I think - but a lot have damage that needs repairing. It's a question of waiting for the waters to recede, and starting to fix things.
