Explosion at Mojave Airport, 2 Dead, 4 Inured (rocket carrying a non-noxious oxide exploded)
Explosion at Mojave Airport

29 Eyewitness News has learned that two people have been killed and four others have suffered major injuries in an explosion at Scaled Composites at the Mojave Airport and Space Port.

It happened about 2:45 p.m. Kern County Fire Department says a rocket carrying a non-noxious oxide exploded. Three air ambulances are being flown to the airport to take the injured to hospitals.

The Mojave Airport first opened in 1935 as a small, rural airfield serving the area's mining industry. The U-S Marine Corps took over in 1942, and the airfield is now managed by the East Kern Airport District.

The airfield hosts 40 companies engaged in light industrial to highly advanced aerospace design, as well as flight testing.

1. Have they already announced "NOT TERRORIST RELATED" yet?
That seems to be the first order of business anymore.

Just heard a blurb on the news. One person is still in surgery expected to be out soon.

No names released as of yet.

7. Some things don't change, I guess- it's hard to build rockets without an explosion now and then.
Here's hoping for the best possible outcome in this situation.

9. SHIT.
I lived in that region for 30 years. I've been there, and known people who worked there. I have a list of names running through my head as I type.

My ex, while not at that facility, and not with rockets, still works in that area with aircraft that sometimes spend time there.

Who died? Who got hurt?
