All this discussion of the candidates is getting to be agonizing.
The election is still over a year away. It's bad enough that Bush is president, but being tantalized by the Democrats who might be next or horrified by the Republicans in the running is sheer torture.

1. I agree absolutely. We have really invented a ridiculous system
that drags this thing on until everyone is bored stiff, inundated with trivia about haircuts, flooded with nothing more profound than soundbites and bumper stickers. This can't in any way be good for the democratic process. We need a shorter cycle and serious discussions of the issues not controlled by Wolf Blitzer's stop watch.

2. I'm not bored, I'm desperate
I'm not sure if I like the parliamentary system of calling an election based on a vote of no confidence, but it sure looks good right now!

3. That's another thing that's so frustrating
The PTB have decided to start the primaries a year early and nobody has any explanation why, I just get dumb looks whenever I question it.

So fine, whatever. Can we - pretty please for fuxake - have the election a year early, too?

4. I've been thinking along the same lines. If we had a parliamentary
system, Bush and Cheney would be out of power - there would be no "surge" and at least 600 American soldiers killed since the surge began might still be alive.
