Could I ask everyone to please take a moment to
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 08:44 PM by Texas Explorer
say a quiet prayer for or send a comforting thought to http://news.google.com/news?ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2005-02%2CGGLD%3Aen&um=1&tab=wn&q=Dr.+William+Petit">Dr. William Petit, Jr. of Cheshire, Connecticut. His loss is profoundly incomprehensible.

May his beautiful family be blessed with a peaceful rest.

3. Sorry but your going to have to elaborate on this story... Cause many of us are not...
at all familiar with what this means... By the way, your URL as posted requires a membership.

4. I'm sorry. The link is fixed. Dr. Petit was injured during a home
invasion. The females pictured were brutalized and murdered. The perps are in custody and Connecticut will seek the death penalty...which I'm inclined to agree with in this case.

8. The last hours of their lies were terrifying, from everything I've heard.
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 08:43 PM by Ilsa
The women were raped and the area around the bed set alight. I don't know if the youngest was sexually assaulted. And he was taken to the basement and beaten up pretty badly. Can't imagine how helpless he must have felt. The wife had to take one of them to the bank to withdraw a large sum of money. The bank teller became alarmed by some signal she was able to give and the police were called to their home, but it was too late. The father is still alive, isn't he?

They all have been in my thoughts. I can't imagine the inhumanity of those two men, who were caught at the home, BTW. I hope their families can find some peace, some how. I wish nothing but peace for the departed and the father.

10. A terrible crime.
The criminals took the lives of three innocent human beings. Their actions leave the surviving family member crushed. The sociopaths also did severe harm to the extended family of the victims, their friends, and their community. I pray for all of the victims.

13. My deepest sympathies to him...
I have an idea of the emotional horror he is dealing with -
my older sister was killed the same way, assaulted and her house
set on fire.
The absolute worst mental torture is thinking how terrifying
the last moments of your loved ones' lives must have been.

14. My God, this society is becoming more and more brutal.
It's like living in the world of "A Clockwork Orange" or "Death Wish".

And I suppose it isn't surprising when our leaders are resposible for and condone the daily slaughter going on in Iraq.

16. I work near the border of the town they lived in
Its a small town and everyone pretty much knows everyone else

They were neighbors of some employees. Dr Pettit treated some employees.

The obituaries covered 4 columns in the newspaper. I had to stop reading after the 1st paragraph as the love of their survivors was so touching it was bringing me to tears

We are all stunned. The rap sheets of the suspects were in the paper today. They had no convictions for violent crimes, though we can't know what they might have done and not been caught doing in the past. They had no parole violations.

The one accused of raping the 11 year old dtr has a 5 year old daughter of his own that he just got custody of.

This whole incident is just mind-boggling.
