"Internet hunting"??????? I've seen it all now. The human race is truly screwn.

....If you have never heard of Internet hunting before, the basic concept of the new sport basically revolves around hunters signing up on a website which costs around $1500, more depending on what you want to hunt. Once the hunt is paid for and a session is scheduled, the hunter then logs on to the site to see the feeding from online. The specific animal that is ordered for the hunt is then seen as it goes to eat the food set out for it. The hunter then gets the rifle in place from online, and at the click of the mouse, the rifle that has been set up in the area is shot and the prey is hunted. If killed, a trophy which is the animal mounted is then packed and shipped to the hunter.

It sounds unbelievable to many, however it is the new trend for hunters that is slowly being banned all across the country. According to the Humane Society of the United States press release, 33 states have completely banned internet hunting and with a federal bill that is being introduced by the United States Congress which is the "Computer Assisted Remote Hunting Act" it will officially ban all internet hunting activity nationwide. Alaska Representative, Don Young is the originator of this federal bill that will stop this unnecessary sport very soon.

The originator of this internet idea was offered by John Lockwood who started Live-Shot.com which has been shut down due to all the recent publicity. John Lockwood who is an estimator for a body shop in San Antonio told The Washington Post , in May of 2005 that his enterprise has been misunderstood. That the internet hunting was designed for hunters who were disabled or could not leave their homes. Lockwood also expressed that he had started to explore the concept of the Internet hunting after he had showed one of his friends a videotape of his hunting. The friend then put the idea into his head wondering if a camera could be attached to a gun.

5. OK here's something from AP for you.
BOSTON --Massachusetts would become the 34th state to ban hunting via an Internet connection under a bill passed by the House on Thursday.

By a margin of 151-0, representatives agreed to prohibit computer users from training a remote-controlled gun on an animal -- sometimes in another state -- and then killing it with the click of a mouse.

The legislation had been sponsored by Sen. Robert Creedon, D-Brockton, and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The National Rifle Association opposes the practice, and animal rights groups have complained it is unsportsmanlike.

"This is an issue that has unified both sides of the hunting debate," states Scott Giacoppo, deputy director of advocacy for the MSPCA-Angell. "Pending the governor's signature, Massachusetts can stand with much of the nation against this despicable activity."

The bill makes it against the law to create, maintain or engage in a computer-assisted Internet hunting program in Massachusetts, or to operate a shooting range for that purpose. The Senate previously passed the measure.

The bill was headed to Gov. Deval Patrick for his review pending a final procedural vote in the Senate.

6. In the defense of the guy who started all this...
He really did mean for it to only be used by disabled hunters. If I remember correctly one of his first clients was a guy who had been hunting for 30+ years and was paralyzed in an industrial accident a year or two before. That being said, this thing got out of hand and every lazy ass buffoon with a bit of cash lying around the house started signing up to get "their" trophy. Noble intentions, completely and utterly abused by lazy bastards.

I am a bit curious about the setup of the hunt though. The article I read about this, back when it first started, stated that a person paid for a block of time, not for an actual animal. You literally had to sit at your computer and watch the gun mounted web cam and hope that whatever you were hunting crossed your field of view. This putting feed out and shooting an animal on a schedule is pretty pathetic.

8. Helping a paralyzed person kill something is noble?
That's your defense? One helpless creature getting jollies from killing another? Well, there's an eternity of interesting karma. God takes away your ability to shoot and you still don't learn. What's next?

9. Color me stupid...but why?
If someone wants to have the experience of hunting...wouldn't they want to actually go out and hunt?

And I can understand wanting to help the disabled who otherwise couldn't, but wouldn't they get the same experience by watching some hunting show on TV?

How can anyone claim to have killed a deer...if they didn't actually pull the trigger that killed it?

10. Leave Out the Guns, And You'd Have Something Really Nice
I think a lot of people would really enjoy a site like that WITHOUT the guns.
Just have the animals and the cameras, so people can watch them over the net.

Revenue stream could be high-res poster-size prints of the animals.
Click to shoot pictures, not bullets.

14. Wonder if it would be possible for the customer to pan the rifle/camera around
and instead of shooting the animal, shoot the beast who came up with the idea instead

Surely, the guy would have some safety for himself in the gameplan

21. Uhm, if you can't tell the difference between LIVE animals getting killed, and some pixels on a....
screen, then YOU definitely cannot tell the difference between the virtual world and the real world. I would advise that you NEVER play video games, you can't handle it.
