Bob Barr supports impeachment of * !!!
I saw a link to this blog at MYDD. Apparently Barr, who viciously called for impeachment and investigation of Bill Clinton, is now calling for the the same for *. Barr has moved to more hard core libertarian since retiring from the house. He has even joined the ACLU. Here's what Cliff Schecter transcribed from a radio interview with Barr.

Our civil liberties, our right to privacy, are disappearing before our very eyes...

...the unabashed way our political leaders are playing on our fears to increase military powers...

The remedy? The vice president and the neocons have worked their way into the top echalons of power.
One: Take advantage of the new leadership in Congress, like Patrick Leahy...who are in a position to conduct oversight hearings...against the Department of Justice, against the illicit, unlawful surveillance of citizens. Especially that...The Democrats neet to change the laws. The ACLU deserves our support. This kind of thing takes a long time.
Two: Get the people in power to support the Constitution.

support an inquiry into the issues, like FISA issues especially, which are the most serious potential grounds for impeachment. They have violated federal laws... perjury and obstruction of justice.

Maybe impeachment will start gathering some support now that a former Repug Rep is for it.

1. Well since the Dems took it off the table,
maybe he can talk the republicans into impeaching . . .

Yeah right.

7. It's easy to pretend to have a conscience when it doesn't cost you anything
Impeachment's off the table. Now he can say, "Hey, I was against Bush, but the Democrats didn't have the spine to take action!"

Bob's playing this one well.

2. This is not surprising. Bob Barr has been screaming about the UnAmerican Patriot Act and in fact
went to work for the ACLU.

5. I Wonder If A Walter Jones Would Sign On...
Wanna move this train a little faster? Get a Repugnican to sign onto Kucinich's resolution. Or has he already?

9. I agree with your opinion on Barr
I'm wondering if with *'s poll numbers setting record lows, dragging the Repugs down with him, if some Repugs are thinking it may be beneficial to them to sacrifice Shrub Inc in order to preserve some chance for their party in 2008.

12. Maybe for current politicians
Barr's out of politics. Perhaps he might plan to return, but there's no evidence of it.

I think he's just being a conservative with a lower case c in this matter, a la Goldwater in his later years. He was thoroughly disgusted at what the Republican Party had become.

8. So does Bruce Fein. They're both being very outspoken about it
in saying that Bush not only should be impeached, but that he MUST be.

11. "Maybe impeachment will start gathering some support now that a former Repug Rep is for it."
The problem is that these former Republican Representatives don't actually get a vote in the House. Meanwhile I see no evidence that the party of the president is cracking under the 'pressure'. Instead we are the ones dithering and holding off and putting off and imploring and compromising and doing everything except accepting the plain fact that there is no avoiding the confrontation that is coming.

14. What they need to do -- and I hope they are doing--
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 01:56 PM by Oak2004
is to head down to the Capitol and lean on their old friends. Find out the reasons they hesitate, and address them. That, done in private, will do the most good.

It's nonsense that there aren't the votes for impeachment. They exist, if you work at them. Not all of the Republicans are dyed in the wool fascists: I'd guess at least a half are not, but they need to be freed from whatever grip the Bush regime has on them, and convinced that party loyalty has no role to play here anymore. If anyone can do it its Bob Barr and his supporters.

13. As repugnant as it is to listen to these two guys following their hate
driven activism against Clinton throughout the 90's = ya gotta (or I gotta) appreciate one thing. They appear to appreciate our 'signed version' of the Constitution - not the Federalist Society revision that PNAC (on behalf of the barons) are trying to implement by their invasion of our country and our rights.

They need more to join them. However, It will probably never be Asa Hutchison or Henry Hyde or Lindsey Graham or Fred Fielding or James Baker or Ted Olson or Harriet Meirs or ALBERTO.

I will take this opportunity to ask somehting OT/OT - why isn't Andrew Card being called to testify about anything?

OT/OT = off topic/kinda on topic

15. I was just going to post something very similar...
At least these guys are consistent. The ones who really piss me off are the ones who were calling for Clinton's head but want to give ** a pass. The hypocrisy is just staggering.
