I'm so sorry, Mr. Tillman...
When you walked away from a multi-million dollar contract with our Arizona Cardinals to join the military, I was disgusted.
When my (then) 7-year-old son, who was a fan, asked why you'd choose to fight a war that his mother railed about on a daily basis, I answered that you'd 'quaffed the Kool-Aid', and in my frustration, even called you names.
When I learned that you had been killed in Afghanistan, I was shocked. That YOU, arguably the most celebrated of all soldiers, (especially with the relatively low casualty rates at the time) had died, seemed horribly bizarre.
I see now how valuable you were to them; a walking recruitment poster.
And I also see, now, how DANGEROUS you were when you decided that the 'war' was immoral and possibly illegal, and you had to be silenced.
Now, I cannot see your beautiful, soulful, righteous eyes looking back at me from my teevee screen without thinking how stupid I was for buying their propaganda, and how your family must be suffering so mightily from this betrayal.
I have since explained to my son that I was wrong about his favorite football player, and that you may possibly have been that rarest of commodities these days, a true hero. But I cannot bring myself to tell him that I think you may have been murdered.
Someday, when he's older, we'll finally learn the truth (I hope).
For all those lost to this unbelievable disaster wrought by our government, and to you, Mr. Tillman, I'm so very sorry.

2. He was a threat to the big plan, no question
When he started saying what he felt, his words became dangerous to Operation Iraqi Liberation. I can only imagine how he could have become the John Kerry of this war....something that had to be stopped before it could occur.

3. The War Tillman was fighting in Afghanistan
against the Taliban can be deemed justifiable. The War he was opposing in Iraq for oil was not!!!I hope his death is the criminal act that will destory the Bush regime.

4. I really think this is going to peal another 5-10% of the remaining base.
The people who are naively patriotic and are willing to forgive this administration anything, as long as they perceive the administration is the side "supporting the troops". This might shake the very foundations of a lot of these people who may finally open their minds and begin to question everything. These people will be incredibly pissed...those that are duped the longest, have the freshest and keenest sense of anger. They may not vote Democrat, but they will take a walk on the Republicans. The next polling on Bush's base numbers is going to be very interesting.

5. That's the way I felt, too.
He was dangerous as a walking recruitment poster, then dangerous as a walking anti-propaganda megaphone? voice that had to be silenced.

From what we know about Pat Tillman's extraordinary character, I'm thinking that he got pretty angry about how (1) he was duped into using his celebrity to help a "good cause" and (2) his celebrity being used by the government to validate their propaganda.

Not to mention that he gave up a mult-million dollar career for a cause based on lies.

6. His death is a powerful metaphor on top of being a human tragedy. Archetypal even.
I would love to see the truth of his betrayal and death bring down the entire cabal.

7. Perhaps bringing down these monsters was the real reason behind his sacrifice
To expose cowardly cruelty with the example of a real hero.

8. He enlisted before Iraq
He enlisted when a lot of us (even those of us in the military) thought Afghanistan would be the battleground for a long time to come until we caught or killed every last Qaedi. Also like a lot of us, he was disillusioned and angry when we found out the mission was being targeted somewhere else.
