Fundie Pharmacists suing because they don't want to be forced help women...
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 01:53 PM by cynatnite
SEATTLE - Pharmacists have sued Washington state over a new regulation that requires them to sell emergency contraception, also known as the "morning-after pill."

In a lawsuit filed in federal court Wednesday, a pharmacy owner and two pharmacists say the rule that took effect Thursday violates their civil rights by forcing them into choosing between "their livelihoods and their deeply held religious and moral beliefs."

"The stakes really couldn't be much higher," plaintiffs' attorney Kristen Waggoner said.

The state ruled earlier this year that druggists who believe emergency contraceptives are tantamount to abortion cannot stand in the way of a patient's right to the drugs.

The state's Roman Catholic bishops and other opponents predicted a court challenge after the rule was adopted, saying the state was wrongly forcing pharmacists to administer medical treatments they consider immoral.

Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire, who brokered a compromise on the contraceptive rule and pressured the state Board of Pharmacy to adopt it, stood behind the regulation Thursday.

1. And do these "pharmacists"
advertise themselves as being "forced birth."

No, of course not. Because then they wouldn't get the chance to give a lecture to some poor unsuspecting woman just trying to mind her own business responsibly.

Easy to fit on little stickers posted on and around the pharmacy.

*nod nod* :-)

It would be a very effective way of warning women that a particular pharm isn't the place to go for reproductive needs.

32. Boycott Eckerd, CVS, Walgreens and RiteAid
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 03:05 PM by liberaldemocrat7
RiteAid bought out one of the pharmacy chains recently. These companies give to the Republican party.

For specific pharmacies that a fundie refuses to fill an order organize a local boycott and call the manager, telling him or her you won't buy there until such orders get filled.

We will not have forced births. Oh and we call it a fetus until it gets born. Don't let idiot fundies call it a baby.

45. I stopped shopping at WalMart many years ago when they
had the same policy of not stocking emergency contraception. I told all my girlfriends about it as well and, as all of you know, we women can SHOP so it was probably a loss on the part of the local WalMarts. I wonder what their policy is these days?

Seriously, spread the word about those pharmacies - money talks in the States - if nobody shops there and the word gets out of the reason why, you may see change.

If your religion has a stance against this, why should you be forced to violate your religious beliefs?

It is not like these 2 are the ONLY ones in their respective towns that can fill that niche.

23. In some small towns and rural areas, there may not be a wide
choice of places to go to get prescriptions filled. What if all the pharmacists in a given area decide that providing morning after pills conflicts with their morals? How many other prescriptions might they decide would be morally repugnant for them to dispense?

If they are not willing to dispense drugs prescribed for a patient they should be in another line of business. They should not be able to dictate the terms of another persons medical treatment based on their personal religious beliefs.

No one in health care should EVER be able to deny care to ANYONE because of their personal bigotry, whether they blame Jebus for it or not.

belief. Never mind. It was a bad example. You're preaching to the choir, btw -- I've volunteered countless hours at Planned Parenthood, and signed endless petitions demanding that Plan-B be available OTC.

I personally think those pharmacists should be stripped of their licenses since they are endangering the public health by refusing to do their jobs. But apparently the courts are reluctant to go along with that.

65. These people and their enablers make me sick!
I work for an airline where a lot of hunters come through with their guns to go moose hunting in Alaska. As a vegetarian, if I refused to check in their guns because it violated my principles do you think I'd have a job tomorrow???

The irony is, I would NEVER tell another soul how to live or judge their life choices, so there's no problem of me getting fired for that action. And that's in my personal life--when I'm working, my beliefs have NO PLACE being expressed to those that I serve. Yet these fucking fundies get away with this blatantly unethical and self-righteous behavior and their corporate masters do nothing. WTF is UP with that, anyway??

Listen, if you work for a private company, you tacitly agree to further that company's profits even if it goes against your sacred tenats. Too fucking bad--suck it up or find another fucking job in your mega-church or protesting Planned Parenthood or something. But if you're a professional in a position of providing me service, I will report you and your enabler bosses to the Better Business Bureau if you DARE give me grief because your beliefs are different from mine.

I swear to God, some people should just be homeless, and let those who want to work do the jobs with real professionalism.
