My mini-moment of defiance.
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 04:02 PM by Cyrano
So there I was sitting in an ophthalmologist's waiting room and the TV set was tuned to -- ta da -- FOX News. There was a sign on the set: Please Do Not Touch.

I was reading and, like many others there, I was doing my best to ignore it. Then some screaming asshole who was watching it made a comment which sounded something like "... so many stupid people don't support our president and our troops."

I snapped. There was no planning or forethought involved. I just lost it. Getting up, I went over to the TV and didn't even bother looking for the OFF switch. I yanked the power plug out of the wall, threw a dirty glance at the asshole, and sat back down.

I was aware that many people were looking at me, but I ignored them and, seething internally, went back to what I was reading. -- End of incident.

I could have gone to the receptionist and asked that the set be turned off. I could have changed the channel. I could have gone on doing my best to ignore it. Or I could have just gotten up and left. But when you lose it, you lose it. And in retrospect, I have no regrets about what I did. As a matter of fact, I feel pretty damn good about it.

(On edit: This happened yesterday afternoon and I am still feeling good about it.)

7. Thanks, Nance. Shakespeare wrote, "Brevity is the soul of wit."
And I really enjoyed that moment of (unplanned) brevity.

5. Congrat on you're move! Hubby/I just use the palm to change the channel.
It messes with their heads because they can't see who's doing it. ;)

8. How can you trust a Dr. to work on your eyes
who only has Faux Newz in the waiting room? I'd think that would make you more nervous.

One of these days if he's astute enough it just might sink in that he is on the same level of idiocy as his hero. But I rather doubt that it will ever sink in that his hero doesn't give a fat rat's ass about him.
