Campbell Brown's 8 p.m. CNN show opposite Olbermann and O'Reilly won't be opinion-oriented
MarketWatch: Why Campbell Brown left NBC, joined CNN
Commentary: Anchor's taking over the competitive 8 p.m. time slot

....Opinion shows made Fox's Bill O'Reilly, who dominates his 8 o'clock slot, a TV star. This format also gave MSNBC's Keith Olbermann a high-profile platform that extends beyond his years at ESPN. Plus, Nancy Grace of Headline News has built a fan base by being provocative.

But the 39-year-old Brown says her program "is not going to be an opinion-oriented talk show. That's not who I am."

So how does she see herself competing against O'Reilly and the red-meat gang?

"I can't worry about the competition," Brown told me over breakfast Thursday in Manhattan in her lilting native Louisiana accent. "Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly are two of the most talented people on television -- no question. We have to do something different, and it's going to take time for us to find our footing."...

***

...what will make or break Brown's broadcast is her ability to differentiate herself from Paula Zahn.

CNN, too, has the task of convincing viewers that it is presenting something new, in every way. CNN is deluding itself if it thinks it can merely offer a variation on Zahn to flourish against two very determined rivals in O'Reilly and Olbermann....

8. Put it better than I could. An elitist who should be at Faux News. Another Judith Miller.
She has been brutal on the Sunday talk shows - totally out of touch, predictable in her support of power, and that's Bush-Cheney.

The hell with her and her husband. We don't need more of this kind of crap.

6. And may I ask how you've come to that conclusion? I deliberately watch the Today Show
to get a sense of how news is being played out and she comes across as decidedly wrongwing. Not only that, her husband is a Fox Bushbot.
Katie Couric also came from a Democratic family, and you see how she played out.

14. According to Wikipedia, he was a state senator from Louisiana and spent 6 months in jail
in regard to lying about an insurance company. And why should she be a Democrat because her father is one?

As to freepers, I wouldn't know. I never go to that site. I avoid it like the plague. So thanks for the link, but no thanks.

All i know is that i've seen a great deal of Brown and when she interviews Bushbots, she positively glows.

an "opinion show" in the same way that o'reilly is.

olbermann does some opinion and there's a relievedly progressive angle on the news, but o'lielly is pure bloviating and not the same thing at all.

keith has a lot more comedy, too.
