Why all the revelations? Why now?
I have a theory.

The intelligence community and the pentagon don't really want a war in Iran.

When you assume this, a lot of the rest makes some sense.

5. Correct - and I don't see how it can be fixed
It took many years for the qualified people who represented both Democratic and Republican perspectives to rise to upper level positions throughout the federal government. Bush, Inc. broke every unspoken and most spoken protocols in destroying that balance. Part of the coup d'état was a purge, of course.

4. Unless the intelligence
community and Pentagon openly rebel or privately sabotage Bush, he (Bush) will continue to do exactly what he wants to do. He doesn't give a shit about Congress, the rule of Law, the Joint Chiefs, the Constitution, the intelligence community or anyone or anything else that stands in his way (and frankly the lack of opposition has been scandalous). The few Generals who have opposed Bush have been transferred, moved to other jobs or retired. We all know what happened to Valerie Plame. Do not be surprised to wake up some morning soon to discover Bush unilaterally bombed the shit out of Iran the night before.

8. I don't know if it necessarily means that the entire pentagon is out to sabotage
It could only be enough people willing to spill the tidbits.

Our best hope may be that someone has even worse stuff. (i.e. Jeff Gannon photos)

Another way of looking at it: why hasn't the administration bombed them yet?

Jon Stewart was also out when Rove announced he was going to spend more time with his family.

Faux news is sooo three years ago.
