6. Anybody translate, please?
French is not my strong point. In fact, I'm horrible at learning foreign languages in general. Four yeas of Spanish in my lifetime boil down to "Un cervesa muy frio, por favor", "Donde es el bano?", and "Donde es el embarrasario de los Estados Unitos?"

Sad, isn't it?

7. "this is not a retreat"
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 11:52 AM by kenny blankenship

It's an allusion to the Surrealist painter Magritte. Who was probably alluding to Freud's statement sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. As the Brits withdraw under fire from every position in Iraq aside from their airport base, and as they hand over control to "Iraqi Authorities" who as everyone knows are really flimsy fronts for the southern Shia militias, they nevertheless maintain that they are not retreating. Meanwhile Bush is declaring victory in the midst of escalating carnage in order to continue the fight indefinitely. It's incongruous and gratuitous, hence the surreal quality.

8. Okay, thank you... and the guy running?
He (Bush?) is saying something along the lines of "The surge is me!"?

He he he, that's funny!
