Post Labor Day Question... About The Work Week ???
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 09:38 PM by WillyT
It was around 100 years ago, that we went from a 12 hour day\6 days a week standard of the work-a-day world, to the current 8 hour day\5 days a week current situation.

What was that change like back then? I'm pretty sure how employers felt about it, yet because of unions, it was changed. How did the workers feel about it? They must have been concerned about a cut in wages.

I'm looking for a cogent history of this, and am wondering when we get to do this again.

A four day week at 6 hours a day sounds real good. And before you vote against your own self interests, remember, 100 or so years ago, it was done before.

Just wondering what y'all thought?

3. I think people work more than 8 hours a day. The average commuting time
is over an hour, I'd guess, one way for a large percentage of the working populace.

5. True... And It's Probably Gonna Get Worse... And So...
as certain political parties brow-beat the hell out of us, women especially, for not being "pure" enough in their "Family Values", you have to wonder what the monied class is willing to give up to get this Family Values Panacea?

Because, although I'm willing to not include my commute in the hoped for 30\4 workweek, I do know that the current configuration asks the less well off to travel greater and greater commutes as our homes are further and further distanced from where the money is to be made.
