We were told 5 years ago that, if we went to war IN Iraq that we were going because of the LEADERSHIP of Iraq. In effect, we were told that we were going to war against Saddam Hussein, and that we had no beef with the PEOPLE of Iraq.
Yet, who has suffered the most from the War in Iraq? The Iraqi leadership, or the Iraqi PEOPLE.
I bet the innocent people of Iraq who have buried their children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, etc. find great comfort in the thought that "our beef is not with the Iraqi people." I guess they can all sleep soundly tonight knowing that. :sarcasm:
Now, the sabres are rattling toward Iran. We'll hear it again. "Our fight isn't against the Iranian people...our problem is with the Iranian government."
Only, the truth is that when the bombs fall, it will be the Iranian people who do the dying. We are told that the majority of the Iranians actually like the U.S., and have problems with Ahmadinejad. So, Bush will say something like, "Ahmadinejad has to be removed from power, for our protection and for the protection of the Iranian people." That's what he said about Saddam Hussein.
I'm sorry, folks. This is NOT the way to win friends and influence people. The IAEA says that Iran is complying with the requirements for inspections, and using nuclear technology for peaceful purposes--which the treaty allows them to do.
If we want the Iranian people as our friends, then it makes absolutely no sense to drop bombs on Ahmadinejad, and kill thousands of innocent children in the process.
Protect the children of the world. Stand up against unjust war (as if there is any other kind).
