What was in Schumer's speech to the troops that...
has Repukes screaming that he 'dissed' them? I can't find anything on it except a bunch of Rightwing sites and (without actually quoting him) say that Schumer told the troops in a speech that they had 'failed'. I have to think that they are twisting what was said. Does anybody have a link with the actual context in it?

1. The Republicans are mad at Chuck Schumer because he helped take away
their Senate majority.

Republicans not like Mr. Schumer. Mr. Schumer mean to Republicans. Bad Mr. Schumer. Republicans not like.

2. He had the utter gall to say that the Anbar Province turned around
NOT because of the surge, but because the Sunnis tribes there had finally decided to stop fighting Americans and each other, and instead kick al Qaeda's ass for blowing them up all the time. That turnaround was already in the works BEFORE the surge, Petraeus just decided to take credit for it. To GOPers, if you're not constantly giving the military grateful blow jobs, deserving or not, then you're dissing them. I am SO SICK of troop worship, and I say that as a wife of a career Air Force officer. They deserve our thanks and respect, and they do a fine job, but they are not invincible superheroes, and sometimes the Iraqis DO step up and solve problems on their own--dishonest and arrogant for us to ALWAYS take credit for any little good thing that happens. But then, Petraeus and Chimpy need all the good PR they can get, and Schumer just popped their fucking balloon with the truth.

3. I think it was the way he phrased it
Something about the violence decreased in spite of the American military. Makes it sound like our soldiers are just getting in the way.

5. I saw a part of the speech, and I don't think he alluded to soldiers
getting in the way. I've read in various places that improvements in Anbar were mostly due to shifting alliances, not our combat role there--we were even arming the Sunni tribes to fight AQ themselves, and they're still doing so--do we take credit for that? Schumer was just poking holes in the assertion that the surge worked in Anbar. It didn't. Sunnis created the sea-change, not us.
