Since Barksdale AFB already has AGM 129 A Cruise Missiles
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 05:27 PM by Flabbergasted
why bother moving them from Minot en route to Iran?

"400 ACMs (AGM-129A) currently deployed at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Each missile carries a W80-1 warhead with a yield of 5-150 kilotons. The ACM is designed for delivery by B-52H strategic bombers."

In addition "The U.S. Navy currently has 14 Ohio-class SSBNs deployed. Each submarine is equipped with a complement of 24 Trident II missiles, for a total of 336 missiles equipped with 2688 nuclear warheads."

1. Because this is how Barksdale is described by the Air Force
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 05:41 PM by Rick Myers
"Barksdale warriors and B-52s have a proud tradition serving both at home and abroad in support of the Global War on Terrorism; they have played vital roles in combat operations supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom."

Both 'why not' Minot and Barksdale have Munitions Squadrons qualified to handle said weapon. They could be 'decomissioned' at either base. Truth is, they are NOT being decommissioned, they are being UPGRADED to be in service till fy 2030. They have all been previously upgraged for use as 'bunker busters.'
