Rep. Paul Gillmore FELL to his death - not a heart attack
Report: Congressman Likely Fell to Death

Saturday September 8, 2007 12:46 AM

By JOHN McCARTHY

Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor, who was found dead in his apartment in suburban Washington earlier this week, died of blunt head and neck trauma consistent with a fall down stairs, according to a medical examiner's report released Friday.

The fall appears to have been an accident, said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Health, which includes the state's medical examiner's office.

Police have assessed the scene and found no evidence of foul play, but the medical examiner's investigation will not be finalized until all chemical and ancillary tests are complete, Caldwell said.

6. I am always suspicious of these slip and fall deaths.
After all a number of people have been prosecuted for murder in circumstance where the death was alleged to have happened by slip and fall.

11. He was diabetic with a wonky heart.
In the absence of any other evidence, I'd go with accident, too. But...they ARE looking further...for the reason he would have fallen. So there's more to know. I just don't know why they were saying "heart attack" right away when he was found at the foot of the stairs.

12. Yes, Ohio 2004 rings a bell
and he was tied in with Noe and the guy that just got charged in the Ohio Worker's Comp pension fund fiasco. He was a bank owner with a home in Dublin which is not in the district he serves. All his committe's in Congress had to do with finance. Money going from here to there for what purposes I can't imagine. Google is a wonderful thing.

13. In all fairness, he inherited the bank from his father
And that bank was founded a long time ago. Of course he had an interest in finance for that reason.
He had a home in Dublin because his wife served in state government. The fact that they lived most of the time away from their district did upset some people in their district (I grew up in their district), but it was probably more practical given their situation.
I don't know if he got involved with anything scandalous, but no one in his district, including his opponents believed that he was a crooked politician. That doesn't mean that he wasn't, but it wasn't his reputation.

15. GOP likes their politicians crooked
it seems unlikely they would kill Gillmor over corruption since they hold that character trait in high esteem.

16. Even though I voted against him and disagreed with him
I really feel bad for him and his family.
I know that his youngest children still are children and it must have been hard for them to lose their father.
Even though he was very much a Republican, I think that he really believed that he was serving his country and constituents.
I feel worse for him now that I know that it was an accident, not a heart attack. He must have thought what a stupid way it was to die in the moments before. If he were Bush, the secret service agents probably would have dived in front of him.
I know that many of our troops are dying all the time, many of them leaving behind children, but I feel this way anyway.
Another part of me is glad that perhaps Democrats can take back the district because Gillmour was such a solid incumbent. I'd rather he of retired to Old Fort or Tiffin and helped those communities through volunteer work though than died.
