"black dye is commendable for intimidating the enemy."...
http://www.darululoom-deoband.com/english/books/masailofhair.htm#misc

Masa'lah: Black dye which has the similitude of the original blackness of the hair is haram for all save the mujahideen. (Muslim warriors).

Masa'lah: In view of instilling terror and awe within the infidel enemy, the Mujahideen (warriors and soldiers) are permitted to use black dye. In Muheete Burhani it is stated: - "According to the unanimous opinions of the scholars, application of black dye is commendable for intimidating the enemy."

Behaviours have different meanings in different cultures. Where we dye our hair and beards for reasons of vanity, a devout muslim may do it when going to war. So, continue to make your Grecian Formula and "no play for Mr. Grey" jokes, but recognize that there may be another meaning for why Osama has a black beard.

Thanks to H20 Man, whose post in another thread caused me to rethink the issue.

Sid

1. While I understand the meaning and symbolism that black dye has for
certain Mujahadeen, this is the first time that I've ever seen dye change basic facial structure, ie, bone structure. Apparently, it has the ability to change the shape of his nose and the rest of his face too. Doesn't it seem a wee bit strange that this bunch does all of bin ladin's publicity work for him by releasing a dubious tape on national tv" And I'm sure that the fact that he seems to harrangue the Democrats , mentioning Noam Chomsky and MAKING NO DAMN SENSE when all was said and done is all neutralised by the black hair dye? It not only seemed to be bloody convenient but strangely reminiscent of the talking points of the criminal bunch squatting in the white house right now...

I don't buy it, I'm sorry...

2. Don't buy it but learn to deflate it
And here is how you do this

HOW CAN THIS MAN STILL BE SENDING LOVE LETTERS TO THE US MEDIA?

DIDN'T THIS REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT PROMISE TO BRING HIM TO JUSTICE DEAD OR ALIVE?

As I said, you don't have to buy it... but those two are the exact questions that deflate it

Whether he is real or not at this point it matters not.

What matters is that you must confront the propaganda head on

8. Yes, and why did we ditch him in Afghanistan and attack Iraq instead?

4. It's too silly looking to be intimidating.
At least to me.

6. Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
I think that there have been a couple of fake Bin Ladens, but this one doesn't look so out of whack as some of them have.

I've lived long enough to know from personal experience that there really are bad guys out there. The worst are maglinant narcissists who see others as two-dimensional card-board cut outs there to do the narcisissts's bidding. Shrub may be one. This character may be two. And they may be equally dangerous.

I like Edwards, but I think that there are some people out there who really don't like the U.S., and sometimes the reasons are understandable. Nonetheless I think that we have the right here to play it safe. I don't like Poppy Bush, but I can see him saying that to ignore Bin Laden and those who are inspired by him " . . . wouldn't be prudent."
