Katrina Nursing Home Owners Acquitted In Patients' Deaths

http://kotv.com/news/national/story/?id=135537

A jury found the owners of a nursing home where 35 patients died after Hurricane Katrina not guilty of negligent homicide and cruelty charges Friday.

Mabel and Sal Mangano, the husband-and-wife owners of St. Rita's Nursing Home in St. Bernard Parish, just outside New Orleans, had been charged in the deaths of the patients who drowned some in their beds after the Manganos decided not to evacuate the home ahead of the 2005 hurricane.

2. Sunday kick. I have changed my mind about this incident.
The first news was that the owners deserted and left everyone to die. They stayed and did what they could when the floods came. Yes, they didn't evacuate before hand. I don't know if it was possible or not, varied reports indicate yes and no. Why are these people and the nurses/doctor the only people who have been tried for killing people during the flooding? OK, there probably are others who were individual citizens, but I mean why the HELL hasn't anyone directly responsible for the levees failing and the flooding and deaths been tried?

3. The levees were built by the Army Corps of Engineers, an entity of the federal government.
It's quite difficult to sue the federal government in general.

4. And yet the federal government is responsible for many deaths in New Orleans,
which means people like Brown and Chertoff (and their boss) should be held directly responsible.

They also shot and killed many civilians while denying the rest water and aid for many days.

5. Brownie, Chertoff, those who appointed them, those who signed off levees

I know it's hard to sue the fed gvt directly, but I think there are those who should be tried (not sued) such as Brownie, Chertoff, mrbush.

Those who prevented ice from reaching the coast, those who denied access to help getting in to help while not providing enough on their own, those who turned away offers of assistance from other countries, those who blocked people from getting to safety, those who did not provide evacuation assistance for those without transportation, those who did not get water to hurricane survivors in time to let them survive the flood, etc. That's just for NOLA. MS has a whole 'nother group too. Those who hired teenagers to stay in WalMart to keep looters out and drowned. etc etc etc
