Seahawks Fans are you Pissed at Bush Supporting Hasslebeck and Strong?
Edited on Sat Sep-08-07 05:50 PM by RamboLiberal
Just curious as a football fan and Steeler fan - yes the refs sucked in our Super Bowl victory? To confess over here much as I liked Swann during his years with the Super 70's Steelers as a Repuke politician and Bush supporter I think he's a doofus but still was a helluva receiver. At least I had the comfort of Franco Harris working hard in the '04 election in Western PA for Kerry.

I haven't seen a lot of current Steelers political positions though I get the feeling a few are Repukes. I'd certainly guess our QB Ben Roethlisberger probably and maybe former coach Cowher.

Even so, I think I could separate that from their performance on the field. Of course if they suck it might figure in my calls to replace or dump them.

Even KO took the "Blue" protesting Seahawk fans to task last night. Interesting.

BTW, good for Kathy Holmgren that she's a staunch Democrat!

KIRKLAND -- Are you still fans of Matt Hasselbeck and Mack Strong after they visited President Bush last week in Bellevue? Or have their political leanings turned you against them?

The Seahawks quarterback and fullback gave the 43rd president a No. 43 jersey with his name on it at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert at the Hyatt.

At the time, Hasselbeck called it a thrill and said it was a win-win, this opportunity to meet the president and get out of a team meeting.

But as soon as he saw the picture of the two players with Bush, Gary Wright, the team's vice president of administration, said he was concerned about negative reaction.

Maybe in really red Republican states, it would not have been a big deal. But Washington is a blue state, and deep, deep Democratic blue in King County. So objections were raised, and Hasselbeck heard them and read them. He got nasty voice mails, e-mails and text messages.

1. Seahawks suck
And this just confirms it.

I bet the Seahawks have a lot of empty seats this season

2. Couldn't effing care less.
And I'm a huge Seahawk fan.

Hasselbeck and Strong are good at their jobs, and since my only interest in them is when they are working I never even consider their political stances.

Until some newspaper makes a big fucking deal about it.

I'd wager that WAY more than half of pro-athletes are Republicans.

3. Then there's Kathy Holmgren
"At my house, the Go 2 Wife was stunned, and it sounds like coach Mike Holmgren got the same reaction from his wife, too.

"I can't really tell you what she said," Holmgren said.

Kathy Holmgren did tell her husband: "I'm glad they didn't ask you." If they had, he would not have gone, no doubt because of the wrath he would have faced at home.

"She's a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat," Holmgren said."

I think most Seahawk fans knew Hasselbeck was a winger idiot. That he didn't know the reaction he'd get shows just how clueless and out of touch the right wingers really are.

4. I thought I heard that Cowher was a Democrat.
I forget where I heard it, so maybe I'm just making it up.

I don't know. I've got a Manning as my quarterback (not the good one) and he's probably right-wing like his big brother.

5. Gotta keep their politics separate
My hero as a boy was Roger Staubach. He is a Repuke of the worst kind, but I cannot deny the impact that he had on the football field and the great entertainment he provided me. Gotta keep it separate - just keep the good thoughts of Swann making wonderful catches.

10. Agree - but Staubach being a really stauch Repuke now
Makes me even more glad we took 2 Super Bowl's from him and the Cowboys back in the 70's.

I did want to puke when Swann would introduce Bush during campaign swings through Pittsburgh in '04.

6. Matt Hasselbeck - brother-in-law to Elizabeth Hasselbeck
insane little wingnut from The View. Her husband Tim was recently cut by the Redskins.

Guess the family all drinks the same Kool-Aid.

9. Ah hah after posting this I was wondering if they were related
Warms my heart even more the Steelers won Super Bowl 40 over the Seahawks. Yeah we didn't play our best game that day but no one can say the Steelers didn't deserve to be in the game after the remarkable end of season and playoff run as a Wild Card the team made. And the ref tried to screw us in the Colts game when they ruled the Polamalu interception a non-catch.

11. Just checked out Bush donors.
Looks like Matt's wife gave $2,000 to George Bush for 2004 re-election campaign. Matt can't pretend that he was just being a nice guy - he is a Rethug.

7. I miss Pittsburgh. For anyone with a mind, it is possible to separate sports enjoyment...
... from the personal views of the participants.

13. This sucks!
I'm a native Seattleite living in Orlando, and don't hear a lot of Seahawks news, though I love my team... I was just on cloud-9 until a couple of minutes ago from finding out my UW Huskies ended the nation's longest winning streak... So I'm bouncing around the house all happy, and land at my computer & look at DU, and I see this crap... That photo was a real buzzkill. Thanks for nothing.

16. I'm waiting for them to enlist
They're still young. No reason why they couldn't serve an indefinite tour of duty in Iraq.

Yes, if they are such supporters of Bush why don't they enlist to serve in his war?
