Arlen Specter: Senator Craig deserves his day in court!
Just now on CNN. He still wants Minnesota to vacate his guilty plea. :silly:

"He did not make an intelligent decision when he pled guilty. He deserves the same rights as any other person, no more, no less. He thought this matter would not be publicly disclosed! His whole reputation, his whole life is on the line!"

I'm certain that Specter would be as interested in true justice for "any other person".

And if that doesn't work, we'll just have to change the concerned statute so he's retroactively innocent. Sheesh.

:eyes:

7. Well, it took Craig weeks to decide to plead guilty....
not hours or even days. If Craig is incapable of making an intelligent decision over a period of weeks, what does that say about his intelligence wrt making decisions in Congress, not much.

So Craig is either incredibly stupid all the time or he is guilty of the crime of which he was charged and to which he pled guilty. I actually subscribe to him being stupid AND guilty.

8. "his whole life is on the line"???
No. A job predicated on being minimally trustworthy is on the line. Bzzzt! Lost it.

Millions and millions of people lose their jobs EVERY YEAR based on far less reason. If you want see lives "on the line," Arlen, go to Iraq. Go to Afghanistan. Stay there. See all the people whose lives are on the line and those who went over the line based on the outright lies and unmitigated hubris of your fellow GOPhers.

Asshole! :grr:

Please let's drag this out to its inevitable conclusion as long as possible. Even if jury let him off on a technicality the idea of another Republican associated with rank hypocricy and hidden lives will be even more solidly burned in by that time. It would be really cool to watch the trial on CNN, don't you think?

Or, if they manage to keep the public out, everyone will see it as an attempt to offer special privileges to hypocritical repukes. I'd invest in popcorn stocks right away - except I'm sure Craig doesn't want to go there. We'll have to settle for another hypocrite resignation I'm afraid.

11. What's the point?!
He pled guilty to disorderly conduct and got about $500 in fines.

He got a slap on the wrist!

Why won't Congress pay attention to the real criminals? Like the ones in the White House?

17. Maybe Specter can devise a "magic stall" defense....
So Craig lied two months after arrest when he signed his plea agreement waiving his day in court? The plea states that he knowingly, voluntarily and intelligently waives his Constitutional rights to challenging the charges in court.

And since the court records, such as the complaint and plea, are pubic records how/why did he think this matter would/could not be disclosed?

How many times has Craig previously copped a plea to keep a similar "misunderstanding" quiet? Wouldn't it be an interesting development if it turns out Larry knew the drill from previous experience.
