Thousands of GIs Cope With Brain Damage
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 05:38 PM by autorank
"Mission Accomplished" - The White House has created a new phenomenon in war trauma - a new form of brain injury where the physical injury masks the traumatic memories (PTSD). So as you relieve the brain injury, the PTSD returns. Amazing. Who is accountable? Who will pay for this nightmare?

Thousands of GI's Cope with Brain Damage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The war in Iraq is not over, but one legacy is already here in this city and others across America: an epidemic of brain-damaged soldiers.

Thousands of troops have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, or TBI. These blast-caused head injuries are so different from the ones doctors are used to seeing from falls and car crashes that treating them is as much faith as it is science.

"I've been in the field for 20-plus years dealing with TBI. I have a very experienced staff. And they're saying to me, 'We're seeing things we've never seen before,'" said Sandy Schneider, director of Vanderbilt University's brain injury rehabilitation program.

Doctors also are realizing that symptoms overlap with post-traumatic stress disorder, and that both must be treated. Odd as it may seem, brain injury can protect against PTSD by blurring awareness of what happened.

1. I sometimes wonder if the reason they are deliberately
stressing the troops is the knowledge that if they are exposed enough to the toxins, the polluted drinking water, and breathe in enough DU, they won't survive to a ripe old age.....kind of a "let them die, and decrease the surplus population," thing.

Killing your own soldiers while making a land unfit for habitation must come under crimes against humanity.

3. I wouldn't put anything past this crew.
The mortality figures are, I recall, much higher for Gulf War I vets than the general population. Why would this be different. And there's a lockdown on discussing depleted uranium. Why?

This is so tragic though, the physical injury masks the psychological trauma. What a mess and what a way to treat people who serve in harms way.

2. Terrible
to think about the long-term consequences that others will suffer through because of this administration.

Nominated.

4. Thanks H2O Man.

The White House gives the orders, ducks, and others do the heavy lifting and pay the price.

Not at all acceptable!

11. My friend's son with TBI still can't communicate, after 5 months
He opens his eyes some days, he squeezes hands occasionally.

His wife and his mom have spent basically every day for the last 5 months at his side.
His wife is awaiting the birth of their first child, in just a few weeks.

I just can't believe the havoc wreaked on ordinary people by shrub and the other privileged elites in Washington who chose to proceed with this war.

My friend's son just wanted a job, and to work in the medical field. They lied to him and said he would work in a Navy hospital.

As a medic, he saved some lives over there. "W" isn't worth as much as the dirt on his shoes.

12. Letting W take office was national brain damage.
And indeed, from Frank Luntz to Donald Rumsfeld, the Republican Party
has been attempting "blurring awareness of what happened."

13. :)
Luntz to Rumsfeld want us to loose our minds, which we all know, is a terrible thing to lose.

Their first work was on the brains of the voting machine companies and all the other fraud friendly
points of the system. That's the brain damage that lead to W.

You are so right, "blurring awareness of what happened" is where it's at with these clowns.

They get great support from the media tools, don't theny.
