"I knew Fred Thompson in Hollywood. He was the same person off camera as on except stupid."

"Fred could not remember his lines. He needed cue cards."

"Fred's demands on the set would make Britney Spears blush. We had to throw his adult diapers in the dryer so they were warm and toasty when we changed him. And if anyone asked why he smelled like a horse, they had to be fired."

1. "Aint gonna happen. Wouldn't be prudent at this juncture."
Mitt Romney linked to Bush family; Jeb Bush encouraged to run for president
From our "will we never learn/will the nightmare never end" department comes this:
Jeb Bush, who hasn't publicly picked a favorite in the Republican presidential race, privately is talking up the candidacy of Mitt Romney and steering some of his closest advisers to the campaign.

The former Florida governor has said repeatedly he won't be a candidate in 2008 despite encouragement from his father, the former president, and his brother, the current one. But Jeb Bush's support, even tacit, would be critical in the state that decided the 2000 presidential election.

Former Florida Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings is one of several former Bush confidantes in the Romney camp. Others include his hand-picked, former state party chairman Al Cardenas, and Sally Bradshaw, 's former campaign manager and chief of staff...

3. I don't get Romney at all. He just seems like empty suit without even the Bible Belt pull of Bush

2. Fred Dalton Thompson did not deserve the Academy Award.
Oh wait, he was never nominated. Never mind!

5. If Thompson wins GOP nomination, the the RELIGIOUS REICH will blitzkrieg the polls
They are not excited about *ANY* other candidate and have en masse stated that they will stay home or at best hold their nose and vote for one of the other non-fanatical xtian candidates.

Thompson on the other hand is like GW Bush...a real nobody, but somebody the Religious Reich can stand behind.

6. I hadn't heard that, but I could see it. It's especially ironic on abortion. Bush got one for a GF
and Thompson lobbied for an abortion clinic.

They don't give a rat's ass about anything but the benjamins.

7. No we don't. We don't need to stoop to that level.
What we need to do is to tell the TRUTH about Fred Thompson, not some invented bullshit like this.

We've got to repeatedly home in on some devastating truths about ol' Fred here:

* he lobbied for abortion clinics
* he wrote the bill that deregulated the Savings and Loan industry, which cost the Treasury billions of dollars and caused YOUR TAXES to go up
* he was an ambulance chaser (this one we save for an Edwards-Thompson race; you know the Republicans are going to paint John Edwards as an ambulance chaser, so by pointing out that Thompson was also a personal injury lawyer we can neuter that criticism...our guy's an ambulance chaser? Fine. So's yours.)
* he's not all that great of a Christian

If we REALLY want to get vicious, and I think we're going to have to consign ourselves to that possibility, we keep in reserve the fact that Thompson has non-Hodgkins lymphoma, which is currently in remission. "Do you really want a president who has CANCER?"

Oh yeah...does anyone have video of Thompson getting makeup? You know how Republicans think any man who gets makeup is some kind of degenerate--remember how Reagan liked to tell people he never wore any when he was in movies? And I'm certain the Repuke attack video of John Edwards in the chair, with the song "I Feel Pretty" playing in the background, is still on YouTube. Well...we've got the greatest thing here: a candidate who had a job that requires makeup use.

I don't think we'll need to pull out the cancer and makeup themes, but we should hold them in reserve. I think the abortion clinic thing by itself is a deal killer.
